This pile of garbage has dropped every day for about 3 weeks now
Where's the SP going, for goodness sake !!!!!
“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”
? H.L. Mencken, On Politics: A Carnival of Buncombe
I adore the notion of democracy from the Greek demos, the people, kratos govern. What is described as democracy these days bears little resemblance to Plato's Republic. We are offered the choice between two equally insipid, compromised parties lead by mouth pieces for other financial and political interests. We are no better than the US where a man in his eightieth year rails against the corruption of his predecessor ignoring the fact that his son and brother struck deals in Ukraine and China with foreign companies from which he benefitted financially. The people are not fit to govern otherwise we would have chaos, hence Roman emperors placated the mob with panem et circenses, bread and circuses or fast food and social media. The population is more interested in Strictly than general elections.
First time in over a week the ftse is up and yet GSK is still down. What is it going to take to save this sinking ship??
I have been saying this for a long time
"The damage inflicted on the country, the entire UK, is a direct result of electing politicians who are in thrall to billionairedom. . ."
Which is why I firmly believe that being given the vote should be a privilege rather than a right. That may sound anti-democratic, but with so many nutjobs and ignorami out there allowed to vote, who haven't got a clue what they are voting for, nor the possible consequences, then I think it's time the public have to take some psychological/general knowledge test before they are allowed to vote. After all these moronic voters are putting our lives as well as their own in possible danger.
So it is "a truism that politics trumps economics".
However if..
"The best way of funding this over time will be the taxes levied on wealthier households. No politician who wants to get elected traditionally says such things."
Then it is also a truism that billionaires trump politics. There is no reason to think that will change under a new prime minister.
The damage inflicted on the country, the entire UK, is a direct result of electing politicians who are in thrall to billionairedom. The damage inflicted on the value of UK companies is the doing of the billionaires and their chosen people.
What a total dog this share is. She needs to be given the boot
It's a pretty rosy forecast of things back to normal 2% inflation and back to GDP growth by 2024.
I can't see that happening, things are going take years to recover.
https://www.niesr.ac.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/NIESR-UK-Economic-Outlook-Summer-2022.pdf I would believe NIESR before any of the septic tanks, yanks brokers any day of the week. :-).
Bombed out Mickey Mouse sterling should be providing a buffer for this basket case but it isnt which doesnt bode well. Goldman Sachs predicting 22pc inflation in U.K. for ‘23 so pretty much anything listed in the U.K. will be decimated anyway as nobody will buy sterling denominated assets as the value being eroded as speed of light. BOE and tory government an utter disaster for the UK.
where is it going ? defiantly not staying in the UK.,
We in the western world reward our bosses for their talent or lack of it. Until all shareholders vote (make it binding) you don't win.

"Luke Hildyard, director of the High Pay Centre, said: “Very high executive pay is a big part of the cost of living problem. If large employers are paying millions more to already very wealthy executives, that makes it harder to fund pay increases for low and middle-income workers.”
The TUC and the High Pay Centre are calling for reforms to regulations affecting corporate pay-setting processes, including requirements for companies to include a minimum of two elected workforce representatives on the remuneration committees that set pay."
We must not be envious, clearly give the performance of my portfolio, they have earned it. Without these CEOs, instead of being worth a lot less than it was , it would be completely worthless. And don't forget the (almost) inflation-beating dividends. Envy is for leftie-trouble makers.
denby69, all the top managers and directors feather their own nests !!
I may be wrong, but I have always thought that Emma was out to feather her own nest
https://www.defenseworld.net/2022/08/27/gsks-gsk-not-rated-rating-reaffirmed-at-shore-capital.htm .
Others no so !
Shore Capital broker view is neither positive or negative. They are always non committal. The statute of liability will clear out a lot of negative numbers and should boost SP this week when investors see a bargain.
What the hell has GSK done to Shore Capital to get so much negativity
After hours price of GSK rose to 1420.
If this comes to pass, should have read positive catapult alert. Citi seriously suggesting that 17bill hit could be reduced to 1/5 th of that amount, courtesy of statute of limitations. Either City are ramping/trying to exit or forget catapult, make it a Trebuchet ...
And any other drug p.:-).
