To make it back into the FTSE100, Aberdeen need to be in the top 90 on 2nd on June, which is only a few days away. Interesting to see that Hedge funds have started reducing their short positions in anticipation; shorts now standing at 3.64%, the lowest for sometime and significantly down on the 5.25% seen a couple of weeks ago. Aberdeen investments have also recently announced some mandate wins and with AJB shares rising 14% today on the back of very strong results, things are looking promising & sustainable. With SL share price also performing, Aberdeens investment in them is now worth over £800m + another £800m pension surplus and a heap of cash as well. With a 6% dividend, i think that these are still very attractive. Both results in July and entry into the FTSE 100 are likely to see these rise further.

I posted not long ago that Aberdeen were top of my takeover list and anticipated an offer in the region of £2.60.

In light of recent excellent results and Citi forecasts I feel that £2.60 is too low and additional premium will be forthcoming.

We will be joining the FTSE 100 at the next quarterly revision based on current market capitalisation, which will again add to the share price, and with Wealth Management companies circling overhead, it wouldn’t surprise me to see an offer well in excess of £3.20 within the next 6 months.
