“…. I’m no expert and happy to be corrected, but aren’t they now liable to pay full divis to the loaning brokerage?”
Correct the short seller has to cover the dividend on the loan stock.
Been trading here for ages, don’t post that often now as job done. But like I have said before I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bigger player grab PHNX or MNG for that matter.
It really is so easy to save costs on economies of scale in this sector and the takeover is pretty much just a rebrand, new livery etc .The accounts and holdings can be merged - look at what we saved with sun life!
But the future savings in this sector with AI are potentially huge. Anyone that answers a phone and uses a keyboard can pretty much be replaced.
The AI experiment at DLG delivered 80% cust sat results far exceeding human interaction.
Peeps chase AI stocks trying to find a winner but the second line of winners are sat in front of their eyes with the likes of PHNX!
With an average here of under 500p from not so long ago plus trading gains and a whopping divi I can’t believe how myopic the market has been!
Usual caveats
