Mention in The Guardian that inflation may drop to 2% by April, leading to the BoE cutting interest rates?

@ Stille. Did you get the magazine? There’s reference to the book by Tony Anderson, the first Marketing Director of easyJet, “easyJet Rising”. Got a copy and just finished reading it. Again, very interesting reading.

@ Stille. Yes, I follow Atrades and Giggey. I’ve been checking Paris and Amsterdam prices for today and tomorrow. Very limited availability and certainly at premium prices!

Just read the chapter in the magazine about how costs break down for a hypothetical flight/fare. Fuel, APD, staffing, Airport handling, route charges, aircraft ownership and sales and marketing. Very informative. Let me know what you think of the magazine once you’ve obtained a copy. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, a good “accidental” purchase as far as I’m concerned.

Looking to invest a bit more in January but want to broaden the portfolio a bit so will be doing quite a bit of research over the next week or so. I’m in for the medium to long term but may look at having a separate trading account but strictly limited to only a few thousand.

GLA and here’s hoping 2024 will be good for us.

@ stille. I particularly follow your posts. Two questions you or others may be able to answer for me:

First; having not been in the market long enough, how are dividends actually paid? Cheque, via my Barclays share dealing account, other?

Second; I obviously look at the quasi-live share deals. Why do I often see trades for only 1 or 2 shares? Doesn’t seem logical to me but there must be a valid reason.

Expect more basic questions over the coming weeks!!

BTW, I posted about the magazine/book on low cost carriers. Although not directly related to share dealing per se it is a good read for anyone interested in the sector. Worth it at £8.99.

@ Cevodniya. Yes, I’m sitting pretty happy at 15 months in. For years I’ve followed shares but had been too risk averse; kicked myself on so many occasions as having made the right call but not having the gumption to follow my instincts. In September last year I made a conscious decision to be prepared to “lose” a set sum. When Easy dropped below 300 I thought it was ridiculous and remembered something someone said to me once about being too risk-averse “A ship is safest in port, but that’s not what it was designed for!” and took the plunge. Mainly in Easy but also a small amount of Wizz as well (up on those as well but a more modest return). What’s been really interesting is watching this board and learning from others. Getting more confident of being able to post here and not get shot down as being some stupid newbie. Got some questions I’ll post later.

I keep swaying but I don’t think it’s anything to do with the fine malt. I think the pixies must ave visited last night as there wasn’t much left in the bottle this morning!

Hi all. As a novice here I try to glean information from various sources. By pure chance I was in W H Smith looking for my regular railway magazine (they didn’t have it!) but I noticed a magazine from the publishers of Airliner World titled Low Cost Carriers. 114 pages, 15 chapters. An interesting read with two chapters relevant to EasyJet; one on the history of EasyJet and one on The art of the turnaround based on a visit to EasyJet’s Malpensa base. There’s also a chapter on the development of the Airbus A321XLR and how it could revolutionise the sector due to

Its long range capability (up to 11 hours potentially). I haven’t read the whole magazine yet but it is a good read for £9. Just thought I’d post this in case it would be useful for other novices interested in the sector.

It’s been a few weeks now since the Belfast and Glasgow routes have been added, albeit not daily. Anyone here have any info of what loadings have been like? I hope they’re loading enough so that they are retained, increased in frequency and encourage more routes to be added. Southampton is a good airport and with the proposal to withdraw direct Gatwick trains from Southampton next June it will be a pain getting to Gatwick.

Blimey. Makes my 2366 look paltry. But I am averaged at 325 so am sitting on a nice return. Looking to hold for another 18 to 24 months. I still believe 600 is achievable in the timeframe.

Very good coverage. I remain convinced that within a year is so it will be back above 600. If/when it hits 650 I will have doubled my investment. I’d probably sell some then but keep the rest for the long term. This is a good airline. Glad to see more regional airports being added.

I posted a while back that EasyJet were adding Glasgow and Belfast flights from Southampton. Just heard that next year the are adding Alicante and Faro. Here’s hoping more are added, Southampton is a good airport to travel from with good transport links.

I see EasyJet have added Belfast as well as Glasgow to their schedules. I knew they were adding Glasgow but not Belfast. Glasgow flights are Thursday and Saturday, Belfast Monday, Friday and Sunday. Here’s hoping they are successful and spur them on to add more routes; Southampton is a good airport with good access and has a wide catchment area. As Southern Rail are proposing withdrawing the hourly direct train from Southampton to Gatwick more options from Southampton would be welcome. Personally I’d like to see a Basel or, better still, Zurich flight added. Anyone with views?

On the SP, I’m a medium to long term hold. Only got into shares about a year ago when I saw EasyJet drop below 300. Have topped up at various points and now have 2246 at an average of 325. I’m convinced that 600 is not an unreasonable expectation within a few years.

I’ve flown probably a dozen times from Southampton but only within the Uk and Ireland. Always a good experience. I’d like a regular service to Basel or Zurich as I have a friend who lives not far from Zurich. But only if it washed its face financially of course! Perhaps EZJ holidays could look at adding some destinations next summer. BA of course have summer weekend holiday routes from SOA so that suggests holiday traffic from the catchment area is viable.

On the SP, I think the October results will lift the price back above £5.00; hope so, I’m averaged in at £3.25, although I’m not a big holder (just over 2,000).

Hi all, first time posting having only ventured into shares last September. As the airport extension at Southampton was officially opened yesterday I think there could be more opportunities for EZJ there. I know they do the winter Geneva route and I believe are adding Glasgow later this year but other routes could make sense. Southampton has a large catchment area and the airport is well served by rail. Anybody have any views/suggestions on routes?
