Unless I’ve got it wrong the AGM is 13 Feb, not 7th. I really think the symbiotic model will be transformative in the medium to long term. Venturing more actively in City Breaks could bring in some great marginal revenue.

22nd Jan is Q1 update, not full year.

Here’s hoping tomorrow is better from an SP perspective and with less angst on the board. Opinions are fine, pot shots just get in the way of civilised debate.

@Paulthecad. I can’t get to the article as it’s behind a paywall as far I’m concerned but I do see the headline that it is about city breaks. I’ve previously posted how I think this should be pushed more. The branding of easyJet Holidays is great but doesn’t promote short city breaks as such; there’s definitely a market for it. I’d also think multi-city breaks would be worth trying; a few nights in one city then fly to another for a few days and then back. I think EZJ have also previously mentioned looking at the excursion market. Having travelled extensively around the west coast/highlands of Scotland (beautiful!) how about an experimental tie up with some of the coach companies that do multi day tours? Selling flights is one thing, selling an experience is a different proposition.

GLA. Expecting a drop tomorrow (not wishing for it of course) but as a LTH rather than trader I’m confident of this going forward.

… and I forgot to mention that on Saturdays at the moment there are two return flight from Southampton to Geneva. I’m pretty sure it was only one last year so if I’m right it could be indicative of the Holiday business success. More regional going forward has to be a continued growth story.

Given the current turbulence I thought I’d step back a bit and check one of my local routes/prices, Southampton/Glasgow. It was sold out today and is for this Sunday, next flight is Thursday at £125, Friday at £86, next Sunday £178. In fact even the following Sunday is currently £143. So even though it’s January, prices are holding up well.

If there is a drop to around 520 I’m minded to do a small top up (don’t want to raise my average too much, although I do have lots of headroom at 357). I’m in for the medium to long term and am considering opening a separate trading account to “test” my ability to trade; it would be limited, I wouldn’t be betting my house on it!

Let’s see what happens this week.

@Stupmy. Thanks once again for posting with no agenda other than pointing me in the right direction. I’m sure others will appreciate it. I should have searched for it of course. As for ‘flu, my local hospital has 4 times as many in hospital as they did this time last year. Doesn’t bode well, let’s hope it is limited.

@Offmessage. I don’t understand TA to any degree although Stupmy kindly pointed me in the direction of some good reading material (thanks Stupmy, haven’t had much chance to get into the detail, I can see there’s loads to learn). What do you mean by “gap to fill”? Do you mean a support level?

Some people dismiss TA; I don’t, I’m open minded but at the moment only gut feel and a basic understanding of fundamentals are my tools.

An observation. On 3 Jan 2023 the SP was 330. By 1 Feb it was 470, a 42% increase. On 2 Jan 2024 it was 509; by 5 Feb it was 568, a 12% increase. Obviously markets are fickle things but I think breaching 600 by the end of Jan/early Feb is not unrealistic. Any views?

Interestingly I saw a TV advert a few days ago advertising Turkey as a holiday destination. Bottom left of the screen was an orange “easyJet Holidays” logo. So not an EZJ advert per se but a nudge in the right direction. Presumably the holidays business will be overtly pushed in the coming days. I still think they should push the short break option a bit more.

I’ve just seen that EZJ start Monday and Friday Southampton/Paris flights from April. Here’s hoping regional expansion continues; certainly the Glasgow service seems well and truly embedded at Southampton now. I do wonder if EZJ will dip their toes into the Edinburgh route in due course.

With no science on my part I think this will drop a bit (but not dramatically) before bouncing back mid to late Jan into Feb to start seriously knocking on the door of 600. If it can break 600 and stay above for a while then I think the upward trend will steadily continue but with obvious bumps along the way. It’s a good business, the fundamentals are sound and the holiday offering makes it more robust in my opinion.

But as I say, no science!

@LSE. I totally agree (as per my previous post). Selling sufficient to cover the immediate tax liability is one thing; had they sold the remainder that would have been a different matter.

But isn’t this a case of exercising options and just selling enough to cover the immediate tax liability which is always liable at the point of exercise? I had options in the company I work for and it was approaching the date when the option expired. I sold sufficient to cover the liability and still hold the rest.
