@MikeS02. I’d like to politely push back on your take on Xhita’s position. Xhita has repeatedly said that they are not driven by short term fluctuations in the SP or dividends but rather the long term growth of the business which, in due course, will be reflected in the SP (I think Xhita has mentioned a doubling of the SP as the aspiration long term). We are all here to make money in one way or another, it’s just we have different strategies, outlooks and timescales. I’m in for the medium to long term (2 to 5 years or so, barring anything changing my view) but I respect others with a different outlook. Indeed I’m even thinking of wearing two hats and having a small trading account as some of my shadow trading in a spreadsheet has seen me nominally in profit. I’ve learnt a lot in the couple of years I’ve been in shares (I was a late starter)and gained a lot from others here.

As I say, my push back is a polite one with no angst, I just think in this case you’ve misunderstood someone’s position (Xhita will no doubt correct me if I’ve got it wrong). I hope you make money whatever way you do it.

IIRC, and this was prior to me first becoming a shareholder in September 23, I believe one of the criticisms of EZJ was that they paid too much in dividends (and hence not retain/invest enough in the business). I’m sure I read it in one of the business supplements in the Sunday papers. My memory is hazy (precise timescale/full detail) but I know I read it. I will obviously “enjoy” my dividend but I’d never want it to increase to a level where it took too much out of the business.

Crossley made an interesting point on Tuesday (@12:50). Forward guidance for the full year is £709m against £610m for the last year, a £99m uplift. But Q1 has already seen an improvement of £65m on previous year (loss of £61m vs £126m). So there’s only a £34m improvement to be made for the rest of the year to meet current guidance. So is the current guidance simply too conservative or am I missing something (new costs coming on stream etc.)?

Setting aside the SP, any views?

@Stupmy and @Xhita. I respect and value your posts and informative insights. I think Stupmy has hit the nail on the head here, simply different styles. I’m more in Xhita’s camp from a style perspective partly because I don’t know enough to trade; but I’m thinking of opening a limited (very limited!) trading account to give it a try but not at the expense of my main holding. I’ve done a bit of shadow trading (in a spreadsheet) and made some good and bad calls, may be time to do it for real!

Everyone has to do what’s right for them. Personally, as a LTH, I wouldn’t even consider selling at £6. At £7.50 I may start to consider it depending on what my personal position was at the time but even then I doubt it. A approach at £6 should be instantly rebuffed.

Were it to drop to the 420 area I’ll be piling in (hesitated a while back when it did). But I’d be surprised if it did. A possible drop to 480 ish perhaps? But being LTH I’m not too worried. Here’s hoping Xhita’s call on the loss is nearer than mine.

I’m pleased EZJ are going to expressly target the City Break market. I know you can do short breaks via the Holiday portal but until now it has not been promoted as such; I’m given two options of the App, Book a Flight or a Holiday. A prominent “Front of house” reference/link can only be good. From a pure UK perspective London is obvious but Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness etc are all great places to take a break for a few days. Add in obvious main EU destinations and I’m convinced there’s money to be made, especially where it increases load factors at the margins (IIRC, the general rule of thumb is that once you hit a 70% load factor anything more is pure operational profit).

LSELoser previous ran a sweepstake for fun on previous results. Anyone with an appetite (LSE perhaps?) to repeat for the upcoming loss figure? I would but I’m going to be busy for the next week. I’d open with £81m (but hoping for better of course!).
