Does any one keep a calendar of Scancell's calendar - eg significant events, which forums they attend and those they speak at?

I was astounded to see the sheer volume of published works last week.

I think share BBs are extremely useful. They they don't hit the millions of people who might be interested, if only they knew about it.

I reckon my Dad had an additional 20 years plus. I'm not sure which of his cancers came first, skin, prostate or lung cancer. My parents were not the type to talk about such things. I think this is an important area to be addressed.

I will always remember the slew of morning vitamins, the sublingual B12 as well as the wheatgerm and hand full of pecan on top of his cereal. He listened to a lot of John Williams classical guitar and other works during chemo treatments.

I think the rest of my family are the ones who have learned the most about treatments, options, etc. I'm too far away to be of much use.

My Dad and I used to visit all the macrobiotic shops decades ago when I suspect he was first diagnosed, though it was never spoken about until much, much later. I think his healthy eating and exercise regime helped enormously.

C7, I had my own experience many years ago, which was caught quite early, (touch wood). I've lost several family members to Lung (3), colon (1), melanoma (1), and brain tumours (1 + 1 surviving). We've also had some very weird "stuff" which I'll leave aside as the two survivors deserve some privacy.

One of our local piano teachers was lost to Pancreatic cancer, and it was the lack of improvement over survival rates which kept me on the watch. I was involved with a crypto group seeking to change the way that scientific and medical research is funded, but unfortunately the management team was not successful and it is languishing with thousands of others with good intentions.

Due to all the manufacturing they do for export, air pollution is high in many places, no doubt contributing to their Small cell lung cancer rates.

Found this most disturbing: "The average five-year survival for people with ES-SCLC is only 2%."

Is there any leverage in having someone who can do so explain Scancell's situation in the challenges outlined?

"While the pipeline is encouraging, the panel discussed challenges that remain for these advancements to get from lab to patient. As Szela put it plainly, perhaps the most significant obstacle for new solid tumor treatments “comes down to cost…as it is really difficult to get [the treatment] paid for and approved” while being affordable to patients. Some avenues help address this, such as shrinking the tumor to reduce the amount of medication needed for an effective treatment or engagement with oncologists to demonstrate that by reducing tumor burden, we can stabilize a disease.

The panel also illustrated that data is king when it comes to demonstrating value to investors in a proof of concept; and without it, small biotech companies have an uphill battle. That particular challenge has led many biotech companies to pursue combination therapy studies in partnership with larger biopharma companies. Associating a novel compound with an established, efficacious agent eases the risk burden and increases the likelihood of positive results. These partnerships also address unmet needs by exploring new indications for patient populations not yet treated by the established product."

I'm not sure I have anything useful to add to this. I think it was expected.

Thank you for this. Time to dig out my own yoghurt maker perhaps. I am sure we will be seeing lots of products come to market for those seeking to keep their own cancerous cells at the lowest number possible - provided there are no downsides.

I can see other companies tweeting relevant pages out. As yet, I've seen nothing from Scancell about the conference.

I really like that presentation, just wading through it.

I can't say I get that excited over it, but I do use it for making investment decisions.

The discovery that the seeds of cancer are often sown many years before the first symptoms arise will not change cancer screening in the immediate term. But it points to the possibility that those at risk could be spotted far earlier.

The study revealed that about half of the earliest mutations occurred in just nine genes, meaning there is a relatively small pool of common genes that serve as triggers for cells to diverge from healthy development to a path towards cancer. It might be possible, in future, to pick up such mutations using so-called liquid biopsies – genetic tests that detect mutations in free-floating DNA carried in the blood that can indicate the presence of tumours elsewhere in the body.
