As for face masks, I made the point very early march to a mate that the primary help would be to reduce the expulsion radius. CV19 is smaller than any of the masks I've seen for sale. So a replaceable paper towel folded and inserted between cloth is as good as anything more costly from what I've read. It's the care removing it which is a key factor I understand.

And I hope that when Johnson survives that he leads the drive to collect blood and platelets - I've seen very little about using the antigens in treatments after the initial furore over the idea. A payrise for all NHS staff and adequate PPE would be welcomed too.

Should you need to dry your hands whilst running errands, I have heard that Dyson's hand dryers are not recommended but I'm not sure if it is just the kind where you put your hands in or all types of air dryers. I've assumed it is the former otherwise I don't see the point of naming the brand.

Personally I would have preferred to hear Dr Durrant answering questions about COVID-19 after 2 days prep over anyone who has lied to the public about UK preparedness. They may hold the J-O-B, but that doesn't mean you should place your trust in anything they say.

Not sure if it is true, but I read earlier (pre dawn) that the UK plan for scaling to 100k tests per day is to fly them to Germany so they can produce the results. Makes you wonder if we should club up with them so to speak.

My primary concern right now is why the UK appears in the top 10 of fatalities per 1m population, even without the extra 25% who died at home not included. (worldometers) Four of the countries above us I think have far smaller populations, so we might even be in the top 5.

Looking for lessons learned elsewhere in terms of protocols, treatments, keeping patients environments clean, early symptom treatments is essential. Even if we stop this wave and our mortality/day numbers don't climb to more then 1k/day, a vaccine won't be with us for several months.

There is no greater priority than saving lives, and working with our closest neighbours to secure assistance seems pragmatic.

I'm also very concerned that planes are still arriving without testing/quarantine, and contact tracing.

I've been debating whether to lock into capital gains losses or let them ride. I got caught out by this week's announcement that some bank shares are not paying out a dividend. I'm trying to decide whether to lock into the CG today or let it ride until tomorrow.

Nature is wonderful indeed. I think I've seen a few of the common buzzards flying over the loch, though recently a large flock of gulls have made their way here to feast upon the mussels. I'm assuming they drop them from a height to break the shells as I find pieces all through the grass some distance from the shore.

No stars this morning as the sky is letting lose the water essential to all life. During the day, I see it drips down the granite and quartz stone rock behind my small haven, as the small plants and moss seeks to find a purchase in its nooks and crannies. The bees have been out in force gathering the nectar, reminding me that I must get busy myself and my seeds into the soil soon if I want to enjoy any blossoms and home grown veg this year. I think dawn must be an hour away at least, so I shall catch up on other work ahead of the market opening.

I've never had a great need for "things", though I appreciate a car that can get up a 1 in 6 incline carrying some weight!

As you say, much is happening behind the scenes at high levels, and much we will never learn about - at least not for some decades. However there are many local groups organising volunteers and help throughout communities. There are also international teams of techie volunteers helping to provide tools for them to use. I heard about flaskdata.io because of their contact tracing using phone location, something I think we can all do manually - just in case it is ever needed.

Over the past few weeks in my isolation, I have been watching the birds all around, and of course the sheep, whilst wishing I had a better camera to capture the unfolding of spring here. There is still a touch of snow on the wee hill slightly west of me on the north side. On the few clear evenings, when I have been awake, I've watched the sky unfolding and grateful that I learned at least how to find north when I was quite young.

Has anyone heard of Flaskdata and whether or not other biotechs are using their more agile approach to provide near real time clinical results for trials? They claim it can speed up regulatory submissions, which is my reason for asking.
