I live is a rural area. I can tell you that some of the staff who come in to care for others in the community have been asked to wear masks, gloves, and at least an apron. Those staff are not supplied anything from their employer, and expect the vulnerable to a) supply it and b) to clean them/dispose of them. With visits up to 4 times a day, that simply isn't feasible without putting themselves at risk.
Besides those who are known, there have been a number of chancers - people driving up in vans, RVs, etc, breaking into private land to park up and sit it out. We have even had a few boats venture up our way, but the Clyde Bermuda Triangle of the Rich who have fled by sea is not anywhere I can see.
The NHS here is strapped - a decade of austerity has cut back on even essential services. The added pressure of those who if they were negative to start with, might have picked up germs on their journey would condemn many to die.
My view is that it is best to stay at home, wear a mask - a paper towel between a folded scarf or tee shirt is better than nothing. If you wear gloves whilst out and about, remember to wipe down everything you touch with them - keys, door handles, etc and take a good shower.
As a note, friends in London, who have been fastidious are both now not feeling well. They use a system of two fridges, and leave all dry goods to sit for four days. So many lives have been cut short, every single one of them is a tragedy.
