I have not seen the dinghy out yet this morning but it is 4C here, so on the water it feel a lot colder. Yesterday felt at least 10C warmer by this time. Clouds have rolled in from the south west turning a few cirrus clouds into blanket coverage. Time for another cuppa and my slippers!

My simplistic view is that they could institute UBI for a year or at least food ration cards would help ensure that everyone can stay healthy enough to to survive it until the vaccine is in in place. There is a large contingent of people who are not covered by any of the "grant" systems and I know many firms are struggling to obtain their fair share.

A vaccine is unlikely to widely available in the UK until early next year and if the current situation is anything to go by, the Government will not be prioritising those most at risk to get it first.

My morning pair of wood pigeons are back trying to figure out if they can get to the bird seed in the feeder. I'm told there may be a pheasant nesting under one of the rhododendrons above me - so far only the azaleas, broom, and holly have bloomed on the hill. Hope you are enjoying the morning.

Obviously testing companies have been very popular - and I hope that the Uni of Edi's machine generates some interest for them too...

Understand the concern. Price gouging is common in parts of the globe. Not everyone has the NHS who will see to lower costs.

That said, I have seen repeated reports that at least one company will make vaccines available on a not for profit basis - that was Johnson & Johnson. Initially they promised to have one available by September. With mortality rates at nearly 3 times that of Spanish flu, it is a generous offer.

My view is that if Scancell can crack a decent licensing model, there will be many applications (possibly even the annual flu jab) which would benefit from their IP. That alone could sweep profits upwards.

This are just my thoughts idling buy as I watch the moon rise in an almost clear blue sky. Please do not base any investment decision upon them.

Instituting UBI (universal basic income) for 2 years to me is a sensible short term solution if MONEY is the only issue. Food scarcity may be a different issue next year.

Some in the UK were prepared due to other economic preparations. I am not sure if the Mormons still have a year's worth of food stored. I've had messages from some stateside saying they have 5 years of food stored - there is a whole industry still set on survival at all costs...

good advice.. but I think it depends on what your taxable earnings band is.

I think the current year is 7% tax on divis up to taxable earnings of 50k. CG tax is at 20% on anything above 14k.

I don't begin to claim to understand the complexities of the science. Anything which can bring down the mortality rate from 7% closer to that of the Spanish flu (2.5%) is welcomed.
