I can see the attraction of creating a vaccine which keeps people dependent on having periodic boosters (from a commercial aspect).

I agree with this, but I think it is important that the UK has a way to manufacture vaccines on this island.

Right now, not even insulin is manufacturers here... The supply problems arising from a "mere" 1M who need it will pale into insignificance to home market of 66million plus billions of others.

Not sure this UK Government will be as generous as Johnson & Johnson who have pledged to provide vaccines on a not for profit basis, but I'm sure there would be take up. After all, we have the highest number / Mn who have died (passed the 61k mark in under 12 weeks from 28 February).

I trust the "plant" is being built with the ability to scale production once there is a viable vaccine or a better alternative. I'm not sure, but it may be that different people need different support (eg rise in the number of issues with children reporting rare diseases, possibly those who have had TB vaccine ).

As for the share price, this is a very big race... so I'm not looking for a short term rise, though I would welcome it.

Presumably if none of Gates' factories produce an effective vaccine, they can eventually be switched over to producing the ones which are more effective.

At this point, I don't care who makes the effort. With revenue streams falling by 85% and more, I may just go ahead and contact all the FTSE250 companies after I can investigate whether it can be written off their taxes the same way other donations can. I was also wondering whether we could get Uni of Notts appeal registered on FB as a charity. We might just y pick up more real long term investors

Just because it has not been done before in my mind doesn't make it a crazy idea. Firms are getting Government Grants
- Scancell isn't. Who would have thought in January that the Gov. would just be handing out money in April almost no questions asked? I didn't.

Chester, great question. I think the world is still focused on a quick solution. Today was the first time I've seen a major news agency post that a vaccine could be Two Years off. Being first to market with the wrong product could kill off a big brand in my very humble opinion.

Two points: 1) I don't understand why Governments, who must by now know that the CV19 is far more deadly than first thought are not throwing grant money at solutions which are more likely to benefit more people in the longer term.
2) I think Cliff did a good job of explaining over the radio the concept of their vaccine project. However more people are visual than auditory. This is why I've asked if Scancell plan to do a brief video. Something less that a minute (like the 42 days to make a vaccine advert) I think would get the Uni of Notts the money say they need (£10m).

My conclusion... at this point, I think it might be worth contacting the boards of all the FTSE100 to ask them to stump up some cash.

I found this highly informative and understandable for those who don't understand the scientific side of things.

This ties in with the WHO briefing I posted a couple of days ago, that the disease is far more seriously lethal than first thought.

I now can't believe I have retweeted it. I have resisted saying that I mentioned this very early on. . . in 10 short weeks there have been 50k excess deaths according to the FT. I hope we continue to learn more every day.

I'm just going to throw in something I haven't spotted in the conversation from your post onwards.

In the UK, the Government requested banks to not pay divis and I believe that the Gov. grants are not available to firm who choose to pay divis.

Only a few companies could afford to pay 80% salaries through to October without the grant for furloughed workers.

Whilst I personally would like divis to be paid, I'm not expecting many to do so until an effective vaccine is through trial and production is the vast quantities which will be needed.

I don't think that these two are the only hurdles to overcome.

I like this lateral thinking. I've been stuck in the let's go to those who say they have grant money in my free moments of pondering. If companies figure out that the Don't need to fly their execs around the world every day / week, then air travel may never recover.

I really hope Scancell have someone whose day job is to think about these kinds of things...
