This is very good news indeed.

I will try to check back later in the day - I have a fair bit of writing to do.

I agree with all of the comments - my initial concern is to protect as many vulnerable as possible.

Part of the "me first"** generation may graciously let others go first if they feel that since they've had it, they won't need to get theirs first.

Personally I believe there are many more benefits to Scancell's approach.

(**"me first" is not like putting on your oxygen mask before helping others, including your own kids)

But at least the manufacturing capability will be in place. I'm assuming it can be switched (albeit not easily) to producing another, more effective vaccine or other medications which are not manufactured in the UK.

Two studies now have found that there is protection from reinfection, at least for some animals. If that hold true for humans, it would cut the potential number of doses considerably. Any thoughts?

I am surprised that none of the big players has made an offer for Scancell.... Obviously there are quite a few biotechs out vying for attention, but surely they must be attractive by now.

Most of the EIS schemes I have read have exit strategies in place prior to their placement.

As a Higher Education Institution, the University of Nottingham is an “exempt charity” under the provision of Schedule 2 to the Charities Act 1993. As such it has the same tax benefits as registered charities which include the ability to recover tax deducted from deeds of covenant and receipts under Gift Aid, exemption from Inheritance Tax for donors to the institution and exemption from the Capital Gains Tax. Exempt charities are organisations whose purposes are charitable but which are accountable to a body other than the Charity Commission and hence are “exempt” from registration with the Commission. The University of Nottingham is accountable to the Office for Students. The HMRC Charity Reference Number/Inland Revenue File Number is X15294

So it is not quite the same as the American's tax system where you can reduce federal taxes by the amount tithed to a church / charitable donations, but it might have some appeal to businesses who want to be seen to be pro-UK research.

TF, I will do my best to make more people aware - this BB has much more pertinent information than most of the Covid groups I've seen.

I think it was brave for Calculus to come out in Support of Scancell and demanding Government Grants be given to uni research outside of Oxbridge.

£10m is such a small amount given the £250M plus spent on social media "stuff" in the last year alone.

John Glencross has also said the Gov needs to support uni research in places other than Oxbridge and Imperial. "Particularly, when it's allied with science as revolutionary as Scancell's"

Agree with this. I believe I read that the peak is expected next flu season.

I believe I understood that the research being undertaken by Scancell would provide longer lasting immunity.
