Nice broker increase to 360 and still a buy, more headroom for the SP.

MAB are expecting a 3% (~£60m) cost headwind for the full year. The minimum wage increase only took effect in April so didn't really affect this morning's results. Obviously it will affect a full 12 months next year. A Labour government may well be keen to push further increases. Food for thought...
Last time I went to MAB I got the runs. Only time I went back after that was to sm4ck the waiter. I then sold up my shares. DYOR, just don't try the chicken. That research will have you on the bog for a week.
For a cheap pint and burger it is spoons. For a more comfy chair, clean table and floor it is MAB.
JDWeatherspoons a better buy or MAB? Which wud you prefer to visit?

If you are a shareholder you get the vouchers with give you 20% of your meal
Hi thinking of investing here, what’s the deal with vouchers? How do you receive and how much?
Also is this in lieu of dividends?
Thanks for any answers
Arrived today via HL. One is for 30% off the total bill :-) rest are 20%

MAB a bright light on a dark day
First quarter performance at top end of profit forecast. About as good as can be expected, but macro issues will dominate the ftse today.
Added to my holding here first thing this morning - looking at pre booked restaurant reservations I would say it is going to fly high in the New Year when the trading update comes out - there is plenty of money out there atm and it is being spent big time - I was in London yesterday with the Mrs and we generally always go to Nicholson's pubs as they are managed well and reasonable on price - went to 3 of them yesterday and couldn't get in!! - absolutely rammed - augurs well for the trading update -
gl dyor etc
Tried to book a table for my local Miller and Carter for the next two weekends fully booked this stock a long term hold for me and hoping for some good results for next year
S***-dip I don’t give advice on investing
It's a good job the RCF isn't drawn as they are already in breach of the covenant. 3.2x Net Debt (ex. leasees)/EBITDA against a covenant of 3.0x
Never take investment advice from someone who can’t spell investor, or anyone who invests for a few quid off a meal.

Going Concern
After considering forecasts, sensitivities and mitigating actions available to management and having regard to risks and uncertainties, the Directors have a reasonable expectation that the Group has adequate resources to continue to operate within its borrowing facilities and covenants for a period of at least 12 months from the date of signing the financial statements. However, particularly given the requirement to refinance existing unsecured facilities which expire in February 2024, but also due to the prevailing uncertainty concerning sales and cost inflation, the Directors have concluded that a material uncertainty exists which may cast significant doubt over the Group's ability to trade as a going concern, in which case it may be unable to realise its assets and discharge its liabilities in the normal course of business.
Accordingly, the financial statements continue to be prepared on the going concern basis but with material uncertainty on the Group's compliance with financial covenants and its liquidity. Full details are included in Note 1.
PS: have you even read the going concern statement?
Yes, I fully expect my my comments on the LSE board to do irreparable damage to a FTSE250 constituent.
'I find all my best investments come from supportive echo chambers', said nobody, ever.

Not if MARS is anything to go by today
Moving ahead nicely in recent weeks. Coronation and all the May bank holidays will have helped.
A pub close to me which they recently refurbished after short closure has been extremely busy since
reopening. After many years in decline there may be reason for cautious optimism?

I got my vouchers no problem now using them
I wish they would just issue this vouchers automatically rather than have to go through the process of applying , which I always forget etc.
Looking at todays trade it does look as if this could yet to be £2 soon .
I received the vouchers by moaning to MB as there was no communication from either party about the restriction . As far as I understand shares in a sipp or share account are on a nominee account . Even more confusing after AJ bell issued the vouchers to sipp holders ...
This is the reply I got from the company when I asked what was happening.
“Each year we review and update our Terms and Conditions to adapt to changing circumstances arising during the administration of the scheme. The terms and conditions for our vouchers are printed on the reverse of the voucher and are available here:
https://mab0euw0sa0prod0web01.blob.core.windows.net/uploads/2023/01/tcs-vouchers-130123.pdf
These state that “only shareholders holding shares in certificated or nominee form are entitled to the vouchers.”
HL was only told of the change to not issue to SIPP holders on the deadline day, 11th December I believe. So it was MAB not HL so a bit surprised AJ Bell have still issued them to SIPP holders.
Thanks
Mine are held in Barclays dealing acct and I have my vouchers. My wifes are held in a SIPP with AJ Bell and they have issued hers.

Thanks Lincoln Green. They arrived today from ii
You will need to speak to the nominee company, and they will get them for you (I have to do it every year), and usually get the vouchers two to three weeks later
Nominee account ii
Do you own the shares direct or through a nominee account?
Anyone had their vouchers yet?

precedent...
They did the same last year - rns dropped on the 12th - TU on the 13th.
Lakeside boat sinking as well to update on.
Last year the SP was around 257 on the close and on the 13th post TU opened lower at 251 and finished higher at 260.
Strategy is to buy back on a significant fall or if it rises sharply then sell out. Either way a trade to do.
or a warning or a bid. After DLG all bets are off.
These must be good numbers to do a trading report at such short notice
trimmed a bit ahead of results will buy back - hedging my bets.

covered by insurance no doubt will rebuild bigger and better.
I remember working at M&B's brewery at cape hill in the1980's and 1990's it was a huge site and so easy to get lost trying to find my way out. Arhh happy days they also had another brewery at highgate walsall. The capehill site was sold sometime before 2007, demolished and redeveloped into a huge housing estate. That is the end of the history lesson for today.

think t more likely a large distressed seller who shares have been gladly mopped up.
Missed the 120p buying opportunity flash dip or I would habve been topping up again.
England getting knocked out over the weekend was probably a contributing factor.
I’m not sure what caused today’s drop but I bought a big chunk at 126. This price is almost as low as March 2020 when lockdowns stopped hospitality completely. MAB are carrying debt but my local Harvester and Toby are always busy which is a good sign. Hope this is the bottom

That's true but the UK income tax and personal finance outlook has changed considerably since the last set of interims. Fiscal drag and the rising cost of living is going to leave people with far less disposable income. As such I believe the chance of a covenant breach has increased considerably. Furthermore, I don't actually think it looks that cheap on current forecasts which will almost certainly get downgraded. Yes it's on a discount to book value but look what happened at Hammerson...
f15jcm
Bit naughty to highlight this without noting that it is the same wording s in the interim 6 months ago and also in the full year a year ago etc.
Dare I suggest that the company is weathering this well and is in a better position to meet the covenants.
Fortune favours the brave.
Suggest you read the going concern section
seems the market agrees so should give more confidence to add on weakness.
heading to £2+

These are good results as I do not see any lack of people frequenting the pubs/bars/restaurants certainly in London, everywhere always seems packed! Plus staff generally returning to their offices this should be onwards and upwards from here! IMHO
Agree, UK outlook is grim and it's not a short term thing imo. I'm quite surprised that there are no institutional short positions given the debt.
I can't odds this, and stand well corrected on my predictions of sub quid. I cannot square the SP with the economic outlook
I won't be adding to my modest holding at these levels
Quizzical ... people will not be going out much when the gas bill arrives .., still, GLA

Each supermarket I go into they are selling and promoting foreign beers . Our breweries are all going to close down at this rate . We need to boycott the foreign stuff and buy British ,. What the hell is wrong with us , Marstons and us are on our uppers . We need to start a Buy British Campaign. Finally after months of looking , yesterday I found some Mackeson's in Morrisons in Ormskirk . Tesco have stopped selling it and non in Sainsbury .

I’ve been going to Harvester for years, however I’m so glad I’ve sold this stock.
Harvester branches have gone to pot (Toby Calvary are falling to bits too!)
Honestly, no peas, mushrooms, black pludding, tomatoes and finally no eggs.
Waiting 42 mins for a collection order this evening too.
I’ve visited two branches in the past 4 days and both have been terrible.
Strong sell I’m afraid, 50% off tonight and the branch was only half full. Worrying.

Already announced so will be out from the end of Dec https://www.mbplc.com/investors/shareholder-information/
You will have to await until the announcement in December at the AGM, for the vouchers for 2023. Assuming that they do the vouchers again for next year, then you will need to speak to Halifax to get them for you.
Who do I have to ask for the vouchers? Held in a Halifax a/c
Mine have now arrived also. Had to ask for them.
Held via HL :-)

the independents being reduced / wipe out is a valid point, and I shall consider that point you raise.
Meantime, at 147 this is going from strength to strength despite my own reservations, market knows best ...
FWIW LTH I retain a small pot, so on a personal level the rise is good, but I won't be adding at these levels. I think Jan / Spring will present opportunity. regards,
Its true - but the market is always pricing into the future - does the 65% from pre covid peak not represent value to you?
On top of this, the best of the industry survive, i can see many independents being wiped out and the big firms picking and choosing any site they wish, getting the best beer deals to keep the suppliers going etc.
Don't agree, though respect all views/ always polite
Waiting for sub quid. Do the economics, we 're heading for a long recession
MAB solid at the right price. I cannot see why its rising, disposible incomes will take another big hit come April when energy cap expires. Not a buy presently
ATB
Thinking 1.32- 1.65 range over next 6 weeks, all depends on markets and MAB numbers going forward.
We are on the London suburbs and visit several of their venues for a few beers 2 or 3 times a week, always good service from staff and they are keeping pint prices under 4 or 5 quid for top beers and lagers.
I hope they do well
Can i have peoples support levels please.Calcs are everything.

Maybe, up to 1.65 soon
Surely, after the Winter carnage that's going to happen, where small eateries and Pubs will fold wholesale,Wetherspoons and Mab will be set fair to virtually corner the market when the dust settles ?.
I fear all these small family run eateries will close wholesale. It's going to be gruesome !!!!.
