As for shell and other oil majors, fundamental issues haven't changed too much in a week. Vaccine news will keep coming, winter will still be a challenge and by spring the world will look different and brighter.
The last year has not brought about a magical transformation in green technology. World still need a lot of oil to function. Yes there is a build up of oil stock but it will shift and share prices will go up well in advance of this. DYOR and keep calm. Selling your shares is exactly what this bunch want you to do. So they can profit, in case that needed saying!

Peter, exactly. This is so as to justify to the London businesses who will be giving the gov a lot of stick for putting them into tier 3. The new strain is a distraction to ensure no one questions restrictions. Cases are rising but is it really due to the new strain or just the shopping frenzy and Universities getting to term end etc etc....Variations in viruses happen constantly, mostly end up weaker as a result. People need to stay calm. ATB

Excellent news today. Main drawback is the number of people over 55 in the trial was limited. Shouldn't be a problem as we have enough Pfizer and moderna vaccine for the over 60's. Rest can have Oxford vaccine which is much much easier to deliver. Job done. Just need approval from the mhra which I expect will come next week.

Whitegate, From your post I cannot tell if you have or have not read back over the RNS that detailed the share consolidation of 1 for 15. So in case you have not, roughly divide current SP by 15 and you get a figure to compare more accurately against the value over the last 3 years.
There has also been a large RI so more shares in issue but offset by more money pumped in at a critical juncture. Anyway, hope this helps put current SP into perspective vs last few years. ATB

If there is no deal, the pound will suffer and BP's income in dollars will be worth more, which will offset a drop related to general FTSE sentiment. Reverse is also likely if a deal is struck. So FWIW, my take is Brexit deal or no deal will not make a huge difference to BP or Shell. IMO. However, like most people, I am hoping they just get this sorry charade over with and sort out a deal and move on. Like we need more own goals at this terrible time.

Crumpets, well said and I agree. But don't get wound up, best to ignore the doomsayers. Like you, i intend to hold for a long time yet and am pretty secure about my investment at least doubling, possibly far more than that. I can't day trade as have a day job so I don't try to sell and re-buy etc. I'm sure many do. Each to their own. Like you I can't see the value in bashing a share for months on end...why on earth people do that is beyond me. If not invested, why so interested that they spend endless hours telling people they and their investment is all doomed? Anyway, having told you not to get wound up, I've done just that to myself! Hosai, agree entirely. I expect most of our leisure activities will be back on around Easter. Epidemiologists are always overly cautious folk. They however don't need to worry about the economy, mental health issues, other health conditions etc that are being overlooked in the crusade against covid 19.

Compared to US cinema chains, cine is massively undervalued. These are for different reasons and macro economics. This news will cause a break in rise due to panic and the herd mentality. Once cinema's open and life begins to return to normality in spring, people will flock to the cinemas. The profit margins for cinemas remains high. Streaming experiments will not last as studios realise they may be killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Personally, having held through the lows, this hiccup is just that. It will pass. ATB

This mob have arrived to panic sell. Will simply allow shorts to close. Cine will be fine. Funding is sorted, pandemic is going to end by summer. This news is a setback but a minor one. Does not change significantly the overall situation. Gosh, how easily are people panicked. No wonder shorters make so much money. Some posters only arrive to put a negative spin. Ever wondered why?
