The collapse of Carilion caused a gov enquiry into procurement back in 2018 so yes the far east/cheaper workforce is detrimental to the UK industry but so also can UK contractors be to other UK contractors.

Agree that it is not aimed at any one sector but it will have more relevance to certain sectors.

They have already put into place the framework for keeping manufacturing in house UK already.. so the fear of far east cheaper contractors has already been mitigated.?

my opinion on this particular Procurement Act is to ensure that companies do not keep undercutting to the detriment of all.. but i will read fully in due course...

I guess it will be more relevant to the construction industry to prevent another Carillion occuring on Public contracts and avoid another too big to fail company

I could foresee Harl being a Hub for Austal for UK but especially Western Europe(Mediterranean) if things went well and it was working out for both parties over time.

Austal have USA covered and the SE Asia covered but I cannot find any proper details for back up services etc for Europe apart from mention of Gibraltar at on time in 2012

The South-West Kinsale (SWK) reservoir, a satellite of the Kinsale gas field has previously been used for seasonal storage and could potentially offer a solution for renewable compatible gas storage. Other emerging geological storage solutions also offer potential as large energy storage mechanisms. These include salt caverns, lined rock formations or in the form of hydrogen derivatives. Work is already underway on assessing the hydrogen storage potential within manmade salt caverns off the coast of Ireland as part of the National Hydrogen Strategy. The storage capacity of the SWK reservoir could most likely be increased from the previous levels used and offer effective security measure when gas demand has dropped, and significantly greater levels of renewable gas are available replacing the temporary measure envisaged. There is private involvement in anything and everything and there will be opportunities for companies ,possibly even HARL with regard to this vessel.

However; I'm referring to the funding of it. They are not letting it be controlled by a private company to have the opportunity to capitalize on making profit off the LNG.

Roi gov going to invest in a fps vessel that will cover 12 days storage of LNG for energy security, not commercially driven. no private company involvement.

I have read a decent relevant enough article on Austal in USA but without a binding agreement, no point in posting it up...

I would be surprised if the Mou does not become a proper binding agreement and pretty quickly, because it is a collaboration that wold make sense for both companies.

Considering Australia is one of the worlds biggest suppliers of Aluminium, it is very good from a supply chain point of view in fulfilling contracts

Just back tracking on this a little but if Orsted were not able to secure FPSO vessel and this was one of the main reasons why they withdrew, what hope would the Kinsale project realistically have. Seems the cheapest of these FPSO vessels is in the range of £450 million without Capex added. A lot of these feasibility projects look good on a drawing board; but turning them into a reality is a different matter. No comparison between IM and Kinsale. Back to the drawing board for ESB /ROI Gov.
