1. Pick up the phone to Novacyt and arrange for half a dozen partner Versa labs (Use Wren Healthcare or other partners) to be installed at various key points on route to Kent
2. Have the key points about one hour away from the port
3. Have the PCR test taken and the LFT at same time
4. If lorry driver clear on LFT they can immediately continue journey whilst PCR test is being processed or wait for PCR result
5. PCR certificate issued on route to mobile phone if negative
6. Allowed into France with PCR result

Whilst we need free flow of goods it is irresponsible of this government to allow drivers into France and into U.K. that could carry the virus. If we keep allowing free movement of the virus it will take us even longer to get virus free

And if we are going into level 4 complete lock down across the the Uk shortly this needs sorting out otherwise the virus won’t be contained.

I am hoping that Novacyt can deliver a form of Rapid test that can be rolled out to replace the LFT and be more accurate - clearly a speedy test is desired

You might think a lot differently if you had a parent in a care home and they were being told any visitor could go in providing they had a negative LFT
Fortunately, this was stopped in its tracks, thank God
LFTs are NOT a threat to Novacyt, in fact they are currently working on one for first quarter but it needs to be a heck of a lot better to any all ready out there. They are not fit for purpose.

It's interesting technology and we need to innovate for sure but new ideas are nothing without strong execution. This kind of alternative LFT is years off before any form of main stream production. It's lab kit version is at early stage.:-

High possibility that Novacyt could still launch a rapid test next year to add to its portfolio but for now PCR is and remains the gold standard of testing.

They have reduced the virus spread as a result of mass PCR testing. Just shows you, do testing properly in the first place, use lock down to isolate cases and look at the difference.

You are so right, I had two members of staff off during November as they were isolating following contracting Covid from their children who caught it from other children in the school. Knock on effect.

If it was up to me I would move lessons back to online now through to May for University, Colleges and the older school years for sure. With a good PCR based national testing program and the Vaccine roll out we could start regaining some control.

In the meantime, I don't think its worth the risk.

Looks like the initial concern is restricting travel from the UK but the reality is that the new strain is already going international. Many cases of this new strain are being classified as regular Covid because they don't yet have a test for the new variant.
