RKH and SL seems to be pegged to the price of Brent Crude (BC), which I assume is because BC oil and its production environment is near enough to SL production conditions and oil quality to use as the yardstick until SL is in production?

SL oil is low sulfur and waxy, so not the same as BC. Having researched this, it seems as though SL's future desirability (and therefore price stability) is better than that of BC.

While the SL waxyness is a potential issue, some appear to be saying that the quality of SL oil outweighs any potential issues and that the production, transportation and processing/refining of waxy oil is so much better understood these days, that it's not that much of an issue.

If that is the case, then perhaps we should be less concerned about the current price of BC, now hovering around $61?

In any forecast downturn in oil demand/prices, which now seems to be in doubt according to nikb (and Josef Schacter) , would it be correct to say that SL oil would maintain its desirability/price stability better than BC?

It is possible that 1st Oil could be delayed to 2029, 2030, or even beyond if unforeseen issues arise, but Divi, it's much too early to start speculating about that, as we don't even know who is going to do the job yet. I very much doubt that Sam and a few office workers from Salisbury, with Gideon and Iain joining in to lend a hand, will be doing it.

Assuming the project will be undertaken by professionals, competent in this field, how can the undisputed genius Divi suddenly announce that 1st oil won't be until 2029/30?

Nikb , a good summary and history lesson, but what we (and presumably the funders) want to know is where do we go from here?

At the beginning of previous recovery periods, oil producing governments, like the UK, hadn’t committed to phasing out fossil fuels in favour of renewables.

It looks like the experts and actuaries have got their sums wrong, and oil & gas will be needed for longer than expected, so a country like the UK is finding itself importing oil/gas, when it should be exporting.

Someone I know bet a pretty huge amount on an offshore wind farm project, to discover it cannot be connected to the National Grid for perhaps as long as 15 years.

After Brexit, we’re now discovering we’re significantly poorer than we might have been and committed to renewables that simply cannot fill the energy gap, perhaps for ever.

BTW, I’m not trying to create controversy, but would like clarity about something that some here have reported and I have heard.

EG777, the word ‘WILL’ has already been used on a number of occasions about when FID will be announced this year, so you are not correct on that point.

Now it is changing slightly to a more cautious tone.

I'm as invested as anyone here, but my gut senses some new words creeping into various statements which seem to indicate some caution, such as FID in 2025 is our 'intention', FID in 2025 is still 'targeted', and FID is just around the corner, which to me isn't quite the same as FID 'WILL' be in late 2025, especially as there isn't much of 2025 remaining.

If FID is still so definite this year, why the sudden appearance of these new slightly cautious words?

If my gut is right, then perhaps a few FIG loose ends, which should have been finished before the FI election, still need tidying? Causing FID to be postponed into Q1 2026? Or perhaps something else?

No UK government has covered itself in glory for decades, with a resulting dissatisfied and demotivated population.

But this bunch of incompetents seems to believe the solution to all our problems is to penalise those who are the most likely and capable of generating the wealth needed to regenerate this country.

No incentives for any of us to do more than the minimum, except perhaps now to have a few extra children, if we still can.

I don’t agree, as many others (contractors, etc.) are depending on SL going ahead.

For example, starting to order equipment and materials, recruitment, etc., so not telling all of these would not only be very poor management, but would seriously affect Navitas’ relationship with them if/ when they announced later date, which they haven’t.

Navitas currently has a sky high reputation and GT knows that the last thing they need to do is sour, or even ruin their commercial relationships.

Happy, Buzz and all the other destructive clowns clearly haven’t checked out their ‘news’ with RKH management. In the circumstances, wouldn’t that be one of the first things they would do before posting here that FID in 2025 isn’t going to happen?

They’re just trying to spook those who still wonder if this is ever going to happen.

I think your week beginning 15 Dec suggestion makes much more sense.

Something we should all contemplate is that COP30 final statement completely ignored fossil fuels/hydrocarbons, meaning that it won’t be the slightest bit awkward for the new FIG and the funding bank(s) to be associated with the announcement of the opening of the brand new oil/gas region.
