RE: V Quiet24 Feb 2019 18:54
Robidicus - I didn't really see it as losing patience, but more as describing what I see.
It is clear that something is holding the business back as they are not behaving like a normal tech company that has launched its product and so would be seeking to generate interest, sales and a return.
I have searched for other companies that are going to publish non-game/music Apps for the Quest and find almost no competition in MVR's niche, and none with Facebook's backing/alignment/support, call it what you will.
I don't find anything by NextVR to say that they are writing something specifically for the Quest, it doesn't mean that they are not, just that they are not saying much, and as we know they have just let a shedload of people go.
I have found webpages that say that Rift applications will be ported over to the Quest, so that means that NextVR and others will provide competition to MVR with content via their Rift based Apps, but will a ported App be as good as a product specific App ????
Will a Rift app look "old" on the Quest ???
Who knows ? not me.
What I do know is that the Quest promo videos look astounding and that this will be the big play for the industry until leightweight wrap around headsets, something like that suggested in the film Ready Player One come along - we now have bendy glass for mobile phones, so why not.
As I alluded to in my post, the F8 conference at the end of April will probably see that launch of the Quest, product registrations have been done and it seems to be lining up just like the "Go" was lined up. I believe that Melody's product will be front and centre at that launch, otherwise it is just another gamers headset, albeit a good one, to which many would respond....whoopy do.
This may be even why the company is so quiet.
It could be that Facebook have said "be ready for F8, or else", and so all hands have been put the pump to make the product and its supporting package ready, a bit like it was before the initial App release last year.
Just imagine all the things that need to be done to meet Facebooks expectations, it would be understandably quiet from the company on all fronts, whilst we chirp on about this and that.
What follows in May after F8, if Melody make it, is somewhat unknown, but if they launch with the Quest the sp will not be where it is now, whereas if they don't, and they don't say anything, then it is likely that there will be some very serious hat eating going on in my house.
Hence my sign off - May the 4th be with us !!!
