Retirment at 840am today "i am staying in eak ! short term pain, long term gain" - Retirment 915am today "I sold 1/3 of M&S & chickened out !" - I did the same thing as you have done today in order to take a profit on MKS a few months back as circumstances changed due to me discovering a large surplus of summer sale items that suddenly appeared on the MKS website and I viewed it as the correct thing to do - you gave me a lot of stick for doing this at the time - I am not going to criticize you for selling today as I think it is the correct call in this market right now, and gives you options on a sell off tomorrow, and at the end of the day a profit is a profit - as I pointed out previously we all have different investment strategies that are personal to each other and criticizing others because they do not fall in line with what you would do is pointless imo - I wish you well for tomorrow -

Citigroup raises BP price target to 525 (475) pence - 'buy' - very bullish from Citi, only a day before the results are announced - I was thinking about offloading a few today for a 15pct profit but in light of the Bumerangue discovery, the Kurkuk development, the assets BP have to sell off, a possible bid and now this upgrade I think I will just hold on for now - gla dyor etc.

Nationwide HP Index mom came in at 0.3pct this morning vs an estimate of 0.0pct - more evidence the market is starting to turn positive - 3 mainstream lenders cut their rates again yesterday in order not to lose business - with an interest rate cut coming pdq that should add some more positivity - I will be adding today if this falls - gla dyor etc

Went to the 02 for a concert last night and had a burger chips and a pint at JDW Stargazer pub - absolutely rammed, me and the Mrs got the last 2 seats available, everyone eating and drinking - the 2 pubs nearest to JDW (a Nicholsons pub and All bar One) were both more or less empty - this theme will start to play out more and more imv as people still want a night out but don't want to break the bank in order to do so - gla dyor etc.

Carrington, you forget "Clothing & Home rose from £323.8m to £402.8m" so sale is eroded profit, but the profit going up - makes no difference - if the overall clothing margins are down the sp will get hammered - I have been buying MKS over 10 years, with respect a lot longer than you have, a few years back clothing margins reduced and the sp got hammered as a result - profits all well and good but reduced margins will ultimately reduce profits unless a much higher amount of items are sold to compensate for it - gl dyor etc

Personally I wouldn't be selling this share anytime soon - the UK mortgage lending and mortgage approvals were out this morning and both exceeded analysts estimates - this imo gives credence to the market picking up on the back of increased affordability for buyers and lower deposits at 5pct required for first time buyers - as I said in a previous post, renting in most areas of the UK is now more expensive than buying (excluding the deposit of course) - add to this interest rate cuts coming down the pipe makes for a potential resurgance for house prices and builders alike imo - gla dyor etc.

"they buy a shirt in for £9 sell it for £30 even offloading summer stock at 1/2 price they are still making money." - sure they are making money but the overall margin is eroded - if they sell the shirt at a 50pct discount then the overall margin is eroded - if they sell it at a 75pct discount or not at all then the margin is eroded further - gl dyor etc.
