"Carrington, It’s more expensive to rent anything than it is to buy over the whole country. It’s just harder for people to get mortgages" - Steve - yes I would agree in London you need around 8x salary atm to purchase but areas like Wales, Scotland, Yorkshire, North East etc the multiple is around 5.5 to 6x - plenty of lenders doing 5.5x multiples right now - mainstream lenders like Nationwide, Halifax, Barclays etc and all these lenders have reduced the deposit required to 5pct - another interest rate cut would put the monthly mortgage payment WELL BELOW the equivalent rental payment, moreover lenders assess the total potential monthly payment required for a mortgage as a central part of determining affordability so any further decreases in interest rates reduces the multiple required to borrow - so plenty to play for - gl dyor etc
