BlaimThrower - while not wishing to put words in his mouth, I think fordm was just referring to the fact that lately we have consistently seen the price here jump by several pence , only to retrace later, or the next day. It's been a consistent pattern recently, and one I wish I had taken better advantage of.
Either way, I see you are quite new to this board, so let me reassure that fordm is neither stupid, or a deramper.

It's ironic - AC had had fun made of him yesterday for saying that IAG was an AIM share, but over the last year or two it ( and plenty of other ftse100 shares) have frequently behaved with the same extreme volatility that I would normally associate with AIM shares.
A lot of talk this morning about how Truss will freeze peoples energy bills for the immediate future - not sure how the market will view that. It would alleviate a lot of worry and uncertainty, and (in the short term at least) prevent an economic disaster, but it will ultimately have to be repaid, so adding even more to our already enormous debt pile, which might spook the markets, especially with interest rate rises. All somewhat above my pay grade, I admit.

Meanwhile on planet earth, UK has its 4th PM in under 7 tears, and will have another general election in the next 2 years, which will be 4 in 9 years ( not to mention the Scottish and Brexit referendums ).
Small wonder we lack long-term planning, and consistency of policy. Instead we get politicians "playing" politics - which, of course, with the modern batch, is their whole raison d'etre.

As for taking to the streets in Russia to protest the war - you would have to be either incredibly brave, or stupid, to do that - it's pretty much committing suicide. I wonder what happened to that brave young woman who ran on to the set of the Russian news to protest a while back? Plus which, they are subjected to a brutal program of relentless propaganda, so most Russian people probably see this conflict from a completely different standpoint to us.

AC77 - "... IAG is an AIM share...". I know the price is way down, but I don't think things are quite that bad (yet). Don't we all pay the 0.2% Spanish tax? Which is still better than the usual 0.5% that is so brutal for day trading. Of course, it was zero % here until quite recently, which made it so great to trade frequently.
As for the war, unfortunately I agree with you - no end in sight, and quite possibly dragging on for years.

No doubt Truss ( or Lizzie as she likes me to call her ) will stand outside no.10 in the next day or two, and give pretty much the same speech as we heard from Johnson just 3 years ago, and May just 3 years before that - namely that she will sort everything out, and everything will soon be rosy.

Mine has dropped over the last few months (unsurprisingly). Now looking at about £1.60 ish - although may have to wait a while longer than I wanted to get it. I have pretty much put this investment to 1 side for the immediate future, and as long as I (or anybody else ) is not desperate for immediate cash, you should be OK in the longer term.
Frustrating, because that money is tied up when it could be earning somewhere else, but them's the breaks.

fordm - Mondelez? Seriously? As for the interest rate, while in the long term it needs to return to some kind of normality ( should have happened a while ago) I don't think now is the time - fuel and energy price rises seem to already be doing rather a good job of limiting peoples spending on anything else.

fordm - Never mind the Swiss housing market - let's just hope the price of cuckoo clocks and Toblerone doesn't spiral out of control. The geopolitical consequences of that could be catastrophic.

Sorry - 39% was the drop, we need a 65% rise from here to get back to February.

You would think I had something better to do on a sunny bank holiday afternoon, but sadly, it would appear not. Was a bit concerned about what might happen over the pond - especially after Friday - but currently down only about 0.6%, which is far from a catastrophe. Still early, but hopefully can hold this level.

Couldn't have put it better myself. We've been on the slide for a long time now, plagued by incompetence, laziness, greed, corruption, arrogance, selfishness, cowardice and general stupidity.
Have I missed anything out?
PS - watching a programme just a couple of days ago, where a panel of people far more educated and informed than myself ( no jokes, please) - and from across the political spectrum - unanimously agreed that successive governments have failed, and continue to fail, to act in the best interests of their citizens. Hard to disagree.

Hi fordm - how you doing? Good post of yours at 07.55. I take it you are not planning to return to the UK in the near future then?
Haven't bothered with this forum for a little while - not a lot left to say after almost 3 years of relentless bad news around this share, the whole sector, and the country in general. It really is both unbelievable, and extremely depressing. Difficult to find anything positive to say. - we (the entire country) seem to be trapped in a ghastly downward spiral -economically, politically, socially - in pretty much every way imaginable. It's enough to make me turn to alcohol, but not sure I can even afford that now (God knows how the pubs are going to survive).
If I had the willpower, I would put my airline shares in a metaphorical cupboard, and not go near it for a couple of years, but that's not so easy to do.
Good luck to all long-term holders.

Scotty - as we are not allowed by you to discuss anything outside the narrow range of the share price here, I just have 1 more post for you.
I have just had supper - roast chicken thighs, with some oven chips and salad, washed down with cold Cobra - delicious.
As for the share price - I think it will do one of three things -
a) Go up.
b) Go down.
c) Stay about the same.
