Down over a penny in 20 mins - what just happened?

I gave up on AIM shares a couple of years ago (2019) after getting badly burnt. Time, I thought, to be more sensible/ conservative, and try a few FTSE 100/250 shares, among which were IAG, Rolls and EasyJet. I only mention these because I know others here also have holdings in those companies.
Time for a review -
2019 / 2022
EZJ - £12.00 / £3.40
IAG - £6.50 / £1.05
RR - £3.00 / £0.75

Even this year alone (like things weren't already sh*t) since February -
IAG - down 41%
EZJ - down 52%
RR - down 39%.
FFS!!!
Think I'll go back to AIM, and put what little cash I have left on some dodgy company I've never heard of. Could it do any worse? Apologies for being negative/ downright depressing, but it's difficult not to be. Small wonder I drink too much.

fordm - your dismissive and disparaging attitude towards all things aquatic is one thing, but you have crossed a line with your comments just now about our magnificent leaders. These people selflessly devote their lives to serving us, and you need to adopt a more respectful/ reverential manner towards them in the future.

a) Am I allowed 2 calculations/guesses in order to hedge my bets? I'm guessing not.
b) "To the winner goes the glory". No offence, but you can stick the glory up your ar*e - I want a cruise.

When making my deeply researched and precisely calculated estimate (wild stab in the dark) of £1.14, I actually forgot that the Q3 results are out on Oct 28th - so depending on those there is the potential for a hefty last minute shift in the share price - hopefully upwards, obvs. When the Q2 results came up the price spiked up by about 5 pence initially, before starting its' inevitable decline - losing that 5p gain on the same day - and another 5p on top of that over the next couple of days. Should make for an interesting end to our little "contest".
PS - I forgot to ask before - but what is the first prize for the closest guess? I'm guessing it's something like a holiday in the Caribbean, or maybe a cruise? Or possibly a reasonably priced hatchback.

Go on then - I'll have a go. Much as I would like to say about£1.50, I can't see us getting out of the current range in the near future, so I'll go with £1.14. Hope I'm wrong.
Irrelevant I know - but if you look back through the charts, you'll see that this time last year we went up about 30p in a week. How nice would that be right now?
While I'm here, I may as well be the first person to wish everybody a Merry Xmas, and a happy ... No - I'm not going to go there. I thought there might be a happy new year in 2020 - we all know how that turned out. Same again for 2021, and -unbelievably - for 2022. So as far as I'm concerned, the chances of a happy new year in 2023 are about the same as me boning Yasmine Bleeth (if you are under 40 - Google her). Either way, if anyone wishes me a Happy New Year over the coming weeks/months, I don't care if you are a man, woman or child - I am going to headbutt you.

Cd345 - like you, I thought shares like airlines/Rolls, would do well as we exited the Covid nightmare - and it looked like that was happening - just check out where some of these shares were in February. Then that bell-end Putin stuck his short-arsed snout in - now look where we are. He needs to go.

Can't disagree with your assessment however, although she's not alone in that regard.

Nice that we are at least back above £1.10 - although it's sad that even such a pitiful milestone should register. Plus which, as we have seen many times, a weeks steady rise can disappear in a few hours trading. Patience clearly required - I have repeatedly told myself to forget about the situation here till at least next spring, but clearly incapable of doing that. Being an IAG shareholder has obviously brought out my hidden, deeply ingrained, masochistic tendencies.
Well - they weren't that well hidden to be fair.

For a moment earlier, I actually thought we were going to make it 3 positive days in a row (or "on the bounce" as they seem to prefer nowadays). Will I ever learn. Probably not.

fordm - hopefully you are right, and it is just a matter of being patient. It's just that after the last 3 years I don't have much of that left. We just seem to stumble from one crisis to the next.
What a cheerful chap I am of late.
On a happier note, I see that buried in the news is a story about a breakthrough in malaria vaccines, which could save countless lives - mostly children. If we had gone at this with the same zealousness and financial abandon as we did with Covid, we may have got here years ago, but I guess elderly white westerners v. impoverished sub- Saharan black children is not the level playing field I had foolishly imagined.

Fingers crossed for the price here today - we have finished in positive territory (albeit marginally) for the last 2 days - if we can make it 3 in a row that would surely be some kind of record in recent times.
That said - and I know I've whinged about this before - but still can't wrap my head around the price here, especially when you consider what a bright start to the year we had.
With counselling, I might get over it one day.

fordm - not wishing to be a pedant, but you used the plural of squid (squids), but the singular of octopus. In the interests of equality and parity, I feel the need to point out that the plural of octopus is octopuses, or octopodes. Just saying.

Hi fordm - 2 things;
a) Lay off squids - they are lovely, warm affectionate creatures -especially when compared to politicians, Who would you rather spend the evening with?
b) Regards the biscuit conundrum - you are correct about rich tea - they are a dunkers nightmare. Even the slightest exposure to warm fluid renders them a gooey nightmare. Much as I hate to admit it, a Hobnob does at least have the virtue of being fairly absorbent - and subsequently more structurally resilient. Or so I've heard.

Do you remember ( I hope it's not just me) when you were sat at the back of the classroom in school, and wanted to ask a question, but didn't because you assumed everyone else knew better, and you would just embarrass yourself? That's kind-of how I feel now.
Anyway - Liz Truss has made it clear that she intends to make an announcement tomorrow in regards to an energy price-cap, and/or help for businesses and individuals with their bills. Are we anticipating a big reaction - in either direction - following this statement, or, as the general intention of it it has already been widely known and discussed, is it already baked into the financial markets? Would we anticipate said statement having an impact on this particular sector?
Either way, don't try and beat me up in the playground later - I'm a lot bigger and stronger now than when I was 13.
