Joking aside, with all the madness swirling around us at the moment, things are still extremely volatile - but with what we now know will be a good set of results coming up, I am quietly optimistic - plus also genuinely interested - to see where we are in 2 weeks time.

Well that was a pretty good week - up roughly 10%, and a steady flow of good news from several companies in this sector.
Feeling more positive about the longer-term prospects both here, and over at EZJ. That said, plenty of potential short-term pitfalls en route - Putin, interest rates, inflation etc. Actually, now I think about it, one of the main obstacles is governmental incompetence and interference. So that's it then - we're all fu**ed. Depressed again now.

At a time when the country is in turmoil, and facing huge financial problems, we have now had 4 chancellors in a little over 3 months.. Little wonder that millions of people - myself included - despair of politicians, and the current epic debacle.

Well - after a really good day yesterday, given our recent history, I was expecting some kind of massive setback today - plague of locusts, earthquake - something like that. However, the US had a good finish, and FTSE futures is well up, so is it really possible we will have a second successive positive day? Hope so (obvs), although there is still plenty that could set us back. There was plenty of good news around this whole sector yesterday, so I'd like to think we have turned some kind of corner. However, like many here, recent history has made me somewhat twitchy.
Fingers crossed.

Yesterday lunchtime I posted to DB2014, asking him to lower my guesstimate for the end-of-month contest by £1.00.

I may not always agree with everything you say, or even understand all of it, because you seem to be operating a little above my pay-scale, but I love the passion and eloquence of your posts. I'll second that jtan. It's difficult not to feel that way with the tsunami of negative news that we have been subject to over the last few years, and a lot of the issues swirling around us in today's society.

Hi fordm - could be a good time to stock up on Hobnobs. I personally am going to lay waste to the Rich Tea/ Digestive stock of any supermarket within a 10 mile radius.

I share your fears, Raffles. Putin can now launch a tactical nuke/ chemical weapon on Ukraine, claiming that they are attacking Russian "sovereign territory" - ie, The Donbas. Unless Ukraine/ Zelensky can accept the loss of this area to Russia in order to secure some kind of settlement (can't see that happening) then this saga is going to drag on, with potentially catastrophic consequences.
And from a selfish investor point of view, we like to think that if there was a resolution to the conflict, that would give a huge boost to the markets, However, I just can't see it myself - East/West relations are now so fractured, that to think we can somehow instantly return to some kind of "normality" is fantasy.
The world has shifted on it's axis, and it ain't going back. At least not any time soon.
