Unbelievable.
Is it even remotely possible that before the end of my life, we could get through just ONE day without some kind of bad news, and a corresponding drop in the price here. Just ONE day. Please.

Well, that was a fun day - to finish off a fun week. Haven't had this much pleasure since I used a rented Black & Decker to shave a skin tag off my scrotum.
That didn't end well either.

LLoyds - was just composing a post myself, which opened with the words "utterly soul-destroying", when your post popped up. Like you, I couldn't help noticing we are now close to an all-time low.
In September/ October 2020 we dipped to about 90p a couple of times - this was mid-pandemic, when nothing was flying, and we didn't even have the vaccine. I know we have racked up more debt since then, and other negative factors have come into play, but even so.
The only positive I can think of - and it's bloody difficult - is that from late October 2020 to late November, the price shot up from that level into the 170's, due to the vaccine announcement. Boy- could we do with even a half of that now.
I won't be holding my breath.

Different day - same nightmare. And I don't even have Andie Macdowell to help me through it.
Feeling sleepy now - think I'll go back to bed for a snooze. A long, long snooze....
If someone could wake me up when (if?) this nightmare ever ends, I would be grateful. I'm thinking about 2026 - although that might be a little optimistic.

Don't like to brag - hence I use a pseudonym on this board - but I am actually a Premier League footballer. The abolition of the 45% tax bracket is not all it's cracked up to be - it will only save me about £8000 a week, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. Getting by on my salary is not as easy as you jealous plebs might imagine. I have to pay rent on my penthouse flat, and the mortgage on (both) my holiday homes, and my secret "love-nest". Then there's the helicopter (plus pilot), the yacht (plus crew), not to mention my Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Range Rover - and the BMW for the missus. Also maintenance for my baby-mommas (4), alimony for the ex-wife, and a big f**k off bill from her lawyers. And mine as well.
Then there's the cocaine, champagne, gambling and high-class hookers (sorry - escorts). Plus the latest fashion in clothing, and the hideous (yet mystifyingly expensive) jewellery. Plus a hairdresser and tattooist on permanent standby.

So that's a big wedge of cash gone, and I haven't even filled the fridge with food, or turned the central heating on. I guess that's what they mean about "heating or eating".
Anyway ,all I'm saying is, this cost of living crisis affects us all, not just you scummy proletarian oiks.

Joking aside, you are right - we are supposed to generationally improve things, not go backwards. What next - worldwide plague? Oh, hang on....

Coronavirus/ lockdowns/ economic carnage / massive govt. borrowing.
Omicron/ more lockdowns/ more economic carnage/ govt. borrowing.
Russia/ Ukraine conflict.
Huge energy price rises.
Inflation.
Cost of living crisis.
Interest rate rises.
Political upheaval.
Climate change.
Financial markets turmoil.
Cancellation of "Neighbours".

An admirable sentiment - only one problem - I seem to recall saying the same thing about 2021 and 2022, and think I might be saying it about 2024 in 12 months time. Absolutely not de-ramping - I'm a long-term holder here - but the last few years have taken a toll - I'm sure I'm not alone in that.
Anyway, I sincerely hope to be proved entirely incorrect.

Funny, isn't it - according to Truss and her ilk, we need to pay wealthy people (bankers, etc.) more, so that wealth can "trickle down" and stimulate the economy, However - if you are a nurse/ train driver/ shop worker etc. - and ask for a pay rise that doesn't even match inflation, you are selfish and greedy.
The only thing that has "trickled down" over the last 15 years or so is yellow, and on the inside of my trouser leg.
