Do you know why Carnival behave like this toward their Senior ships’ crew? It would seem to me to be counter-productive in every way.

Agreed, K. And, TBH, loads of the crew/staff keep coming back. Carnival have won awards for staff diversity and as a good company to work for.

I suspect it’s more like Nautilus wanting to raise its profile. But yes, lazy journalism, too, with no research done.

P & O UK categorically denied any “fire and rehire” business and said it’s the annual pay/appraisal. Also, they have increased headcount across the fleet (Cunard & P & O).

Oh, no, missed that but. It drifted down a couple of pence. At the current price it would mean a big loss for HMG but would obviously raise some cash - around £7bn at a rough calc. I think there would be buyers for them - in fact I am sure HMG would do it as a placed sale, i.e. fully underwritten.

Oh well. I was always in for the long term, really.

On the other hand I could be impoverished- even more so than I am already.

I heard a story about a chap whose marriage sadly broke down. The settlement was amicable and tge house was sold with everything being split 50/50. He took his share to Las Vegas, plonked it all on Black, won and flew home - upgraded to first class, naturally. I don’t suppose he has been the only one.

Clerics are not supposed to gamble, anyway, but we do occasionally invest (??) in the Lottery.

No problem, Bot, at least not for me. Your views are always worth listening to because you fill in a lot of background to give us the bigger picture. My attention span is not what it was but still enough to cope with your “rant”. Personally, I wouldn’t call it that, anyway. Frustration, more like, because I feel, as you obviously do, that sentiment rules and in business that is the last thing one should rely on but one has to take it into account. I agree that facts should dictate what happens but we just have to live with it and all the volatility it brings. Q4/full year results next month should help to stabilise things, I hope.

Carnival themselves, on their own admission, pay no heed to the oil price. Even though they don’t “hedge”, i suspect they buy so much of the stuff that they get a pretty good price all the time. However, what they do say is that t they focus on what they can control, i.e. how much they use.

As far as inflation goes, the Tories are crowing about having halved it. I don’t think Hunt is going to do anything that he thinks will jeopardise that. The BoE have also said it’s way too early to think about rate cuts.

So, theoretically, nothing said today should affect sentiment………….but I bet the SP finds a way!
