I guess it may depend on why you hold shares in the first place. If you’re after capital growth, that’s one thing and you probably want to be in for the longer term. If you’re after dividends/income that’s something else.

For me, it’s a kind of rainy day SIPP where mine sits. From other half’s point of view, i have sadly made 75 so she will now have to pay tax on anything drawn out after I’m gone.

In the meantime, I want to grow the thing as much as possible with some security/safety.

In the US they actively market cruises as being cheaper than a land-based, all-inclusive holiday.

They refer to this regularly in their quarterly results webinars.

Same becoming true for the UK. We noticed on our Iona trip that the ship had become the destination not just the means of getting from one port to tge next.

I am in just the opposite position, i.e. a very small holding and all in one place so the trade cost would be around £25 plus the spread -which, incidentally does seem to vary quite a lot.

Like you, though, i am simply going to hang in there. At least NatWest is also moving up slowly.

Just after the Q3 results were announced, the CEO said that Carnival do not “hedge” their fuel costs. They cannot control the price of oil so they focus on what they can control, namely how much fuel they use. (I know that P & O captains get a bonus if they use less fuel on a cruise than was budgeted).

Bot, that Saga incident was the lead item on the news in South Today at lunchtime. They had a reporter on the quayside at Portsmouth with the ship in the background. Saga apparently apologised - not for the weather, of course, but for the manoeuvre which threw everyone about a bit. The cruise was cut short so the pax should all get some sort of refund or insurance claim.

I detect a little bitterness, perhaps in YuriF andGrayling’s comments, but, hey, we are all in different situations with different experiences behind us.

I simply have to hang in there and not doing at all badly with CCL as 13% up.

My bête noir is NatWest. They need to sort themselves out. No reason to expect the share price to get to £3.50 eventually.

As far as future cruises go, other half is a tad concerned about the rise of covid infection rates. Financials are not her worry. For CCL, Neversell has it right but Carnival are more optimistic than that, I think.

Two things, then:

1. The spill could not have been that large if they were delayed by only two hours and will have had to clean up before they left.

2. It’s not evidence of any larger issues, however the Telegraph might try to spin it by quoting an out of date stat which, in any case, related to European ships not US ones.

Read Carnival’s information about what they are doing to clean up their emissions. The cruise lines are only to well aware of how polluting their ships have been in the past but they are all making huge strides in mitigation now, either by using alternative fuel (LNG) or installing scrubber systems in those still on HFO.

Of course, if you don’t like cruise ships, you don’t have to get on one.

Fordy, Baron isn’t the named Director, Randall Weisenberger, who purchased the two blocks of shares, although I suppose there could be some link between them, but if that was so someone would have mentioned it before.

Grsyling, you would do well do provide some evidence to back up that allegation. After Carnival we’re caught out some years ago they were forced o clean up their act and installed better systems to something of a fanfare. All the cruise lines know that what you are alleging is against international maritime law.

I agree with the assessment that everything that was once seen as a positive now seems to be negative and vice versa.

How’s the weather with everyone? Here in North Hampshire it is chilly and the wind is picking up (must be the beans). Heavy rain last night and now raining again. Storm Ciarán not as bad as feared.
