Neither of which is the reality. Passenger numbers are going up and debt is being serviced and repaid. There will be a lower repayment in 2024 as three new ships come into service but repayment will pick up in 2025 and 2026.

That is th3 opposite of what they’re saying in the simukcast. They will pay down mor3 debt and earlier than expected. 80% of debt is on fixed rates and the average rate payable is just over 5%.

They have not made a loss, far from it. Adjusted net EPS are $0.86.

The numbers are on the website for Q3 and everything exceeds the June expectations despite increased fuel costs. And the full- year expectation is equally positive.

Time to buy? Typical reaction from the SP though, having slowly risen, down it goes!

Agree with most. Debt is an issue but they announced at the last results that refinancing on lower, fixed rates would save $120m a year. So, lenders must be happy with Carnival! Debt amounted to 50% of net assets.

Agree, K, the demographic on larger ships is different. We felt really old!

In the US, they market cruising as a cheaper alternative to a land-based all-inclusive holiday. They will mention this later today, I am sure.

Seems like the last think folk will give up is their holiday!

Well, whatever was going on has now reversed, it seems.

There is no viable explanation. After the last results, the price tanked immediately but within a month had reached £13.50.

No reason to expect anything different this time round. Maybe the shorters sold out when it dipped below £10?

That will be difficult in the UK since there aren’t any open short positions. Dunno about the US.

Horses for courses, BJ et al - recent adverts on Classic FM for Viking openly state NO casino and NO children. Now that is an attraction.

Average age on P & O is bound to have come down with the bigger ships attracting families, I guess.

I agree that debt is still the issue for Carnival but that is the case for all travel co’s and airlines. The other side of that coin is that the institutions who lend and have lent the money obviously think the borrowers are good for the money and, indeed CCL have already announced their repayment plans and targets, as well as refinancing at lower, fixed rates. I would expect some early pay down of debt if the results exceed expectations.

Should be good news for the SP but where have I heard that before?

We have looked at SAGA (send a granny away when wife’s parents went) and agree with K. Also departure port best for us is Portsmouth but they seem to use Dover quite a lot, although they do provide transport.

In the past, that he’s never worried Carnival or its SP come to that, even though, on their own admission, they do not “hedge”.

They will undoubtedly comment on this on Friday as part of the Q3 results/plans announcement.

Morning all,

I have been wondering about pricing, or, rather, actual costs. All Carnival lines have been pushing up prices. Indeed, it was announced at the last results that it was actually strategy to do that, simply, I believe, because demand was allowing it. Iona had a large number of families on board in July. For a week we paid around £3.500 for a Conservatory Mini Suite on the deck above the Promenade Deck (thanks for the tip Ken!) but those will only sleep three people, I think, as the sofa bed looks to be a single. We felt a bit squeezed with just two of us but the conservatory bit and the balcony compensated for that. As a family of four, you would need a deluxe balcony cabin, or two separate cabins?

Either way, it’s still not cheap. Like Bot, I wonder who has the money. But then I read this week that the last thing Brits will give up is their holiday.

We pensioners now, of course, need to vote LibDem to retain the triple lock. If only they weren’t led by Dave……..

Anyway, enough rambling. Wife’s birthday today so off out to lunch. Family lunch (9) tomorrow. We know how to live it up!
