That is a real shame. When we woz on Iona earlier, we remarked on how much the staff attitude etc had improved over our previous trip on Arcadia when experienced staff were taken off to beef up the numbers on I and A.

How did Arvia cope with the high wind and, presumably, lumpy sea?

PS assume you’re in a Suite on Arcadia in December. We have tended to go for “Florence” the last few times and will be there again in July 23 and May 24 (Western Med - Greece & Turkey). Avoid the absolute premium suites midships because the balconies are overlooked by the external lifts……

Hi BJ, sincere apologies - the fault is entirely mine!! I blame the varifocals……

My wife suffers terribly with ear problems when flying - or rather descending from altitude de and nothing touches it. So, back in 2010 we tried a Southampton cruise to the Canaries for 10 days on the basis that if we didn’t like it after 3 or 4 we only had one week to endure. That was on Oriana and we have never looked back! Or if we have, it’s only with fond memories!

Arcadia has become our favourite until we tried Iona. Even though it was full of families, it never felt crowded and TBH, the children were largely out of sight out of mind in “The Reef” kids’ club, which, I was told, was absolutely great fun and enjoyed by all - not least mum & dad!

We are a still a bit “stick to what we know” so have only ever been on P & O.

I think she’ll come round perhaps early in New Year when withdrawal symptoms bite a bit.

Topo, of of sheer curiosity, which grade did you go for - I appreciate your choice may have been restricted this close to sailing.

I am told that Arcadia was originally destined for Cunard and is very close in design to QV, but rejected by Carnival who had just bought the line. Went to P &O who were subsequently all bought by Carnival.

Other half is apprehensive about a cruise because of rising covid rates. I tried to get her onto Arcadia early December for a four-nighter to Amsterdam.

Couple that with recent expenditure on new washing machine, tumble dryer and tv as well as car, has probably scuppered anything for a while. Next trip is to Saundersfoot for a week with family just after Easter next year then British Isles on Arcadia in July.

Sister in law in Aix en Provence wants us to visit so might try to do that before Christmas.

A slight uptick brings us in line with the US.

Just when you think things cannot get any more expensive, ah yes, your car service, sir. That will be £398. Oh, wait a minute, the cam belt needs changing as does the brake fluid, that will be an additional £900. Is that ok, sir, shall we go ahead and do those? What can I say? A busted cam belt while running means a new engine…….

Have a great couple of weeks in the sun!

Expensive three weeks just gone here - new washing machine, new tumble dryer and, today, after Virgin tech visit yesterday, a new TV. It was clear the fault was in the telly and the new one proves it.

Our friend Mr Weisenberger has dropped $140,000 in two days. He must be hoping for better, as we all are!

This purchase by a director sends all kinds of signals. In fact it was 57 purchases spread over the day at an average price of $12.985 so, he’s lost a bit just now but probably expected that.

Personally, I’m encouraged that he is prepared to sink a large wedge into CCL but am not expecting instantaneous effects.

I am tending to think oil price is not a fundamental driver but that is just me, probably.

Well, he did it on 10th and the price has dropped a bit - a lot - since then but clearly he reckons there must be an upside in it.

I can see why you would be worried, Topo, I hope Cunard can reassure you?

All the gain made on Monday has pretty much evaporated.

Bot, I just struggle a bit with the maths. If 3.4m shares were traded in 15 minutes, that is still only 2.5% of the total. Maybe it’s enough to affect sentiment.
