We could be in for anything, Topo. It has been a simile pattern in the past. Results released and the price rises, then, after the webinar starts, it drops, then, after the tame questions from the analysts, or is that questions from he tame analysts, it bounces around for the rest of the day here. Then we have a full day’s trading to cope with tomorrow.

The long term outlook is actually good but the markets will find something negative that will outweigh all the good stuff.

Thanks, Scalp. I would just add that the debt pile is less than 50% of net assets and they are ahead of plan on paying it down. Less of a worry than the possible effects on revenue of escalating conflicts in various parts of the world, I think.

Sun, yes it could but the last three sets of results have not been well received despite exceeding expectations on pretty well every indicator.

I want to be optimistic and will hold my shares whatever the markets say because i think they are a long-term good bet. As for Thursday, i shall listen with interest but not hold my breath! We’ll probably get an indication between 14:00 and 15:00 as to the direction because the numbers are leaked, sorry, published before the start time of the Simulcast.

I agree, Topo. I think Hurtigruten are the only company with a ship capable of running on battery power, and it is charged up on its diesel engines which will be allowed into the other fjords.

BTW, there are only two such at the moment: Geraingerfjord and Nærøyfjord. One would certainly be missed, it has the Seven Sisters waterfalls but I have never been to the other.

Just looked again and this is the position, I think: in the fjords designated “World Heritage Sites” by UNESCO, only zero-emissions ships will be allowed in from 1st January, 2026. LNG won’t be good enough. It seems it will electric/battery only.

This was a target set some time ago so worth keeping an eye on.

Yes, I wasn’t going to get into the debate about how clean, or otherwise, LNG is. The cost is less. I think P & O are introducing scrubbing tech to some of their HFO guzzlers.

Absolutely, Buchanan. There has been email after email trumpeting the record levels of bookings.

A number of Carnival ships (including the two latest P & O additions and future ones) run on LNG. And the largest producer of that is……..the USA.

We’re still trying to decide if we can do another cruise in addition to our July one next year.

I am sure you’re right but Carnival have always said they keep it under review and that the cost has, for them, always outweighed any benefit, focusing instead on what they can control, namely how much they use.

Anyway, looks like the US likes the present situation, especially as the BoE has said no increase in interest rates today.

CCL have always made it clear that they don’t hedge their fuel costs. It’s partly why the share price doesn’t move too much on the oil price fluctuations. They also emphasise that they co control how much they use.

P & O captains get (or did a year or two back) a “fuel bonus” if they use a percentage less fuel than budgeted. I know that because the captain of Arcadia told us he lost his trying to avoid a hurricane when we were coming back across the Atlantic.

Apologies all - somebody’s numbers don’t make sense.

To find the number of shares one divides the Cap Value by the price, i.e. £16bn by £12.70 giving 1.3bn shares. The RNS definitely talks about only one tenth of this number as the “reference number” for determining whether a holding breaches a prescribed limit.

I watched the YouTuber - apart from the fact that some of his statements were just plain wrong sweat else can one say?

E.g. the number of shares in issue is not 1.4bn, it is 200m+ of which only 146m+ are tradeable and Carnival’s interest costs are reducing through two factors - refinancing at lower,fixed rates and earlier repayments.

I am not looking through rose-tinted glasses. There are no open short positions in the UK

Thank you S, very helpful. I was wondering really only in connection with CCL because the UK shares do not carry voting rights. I believe there are two share types available on NYSE so would need to be sure to get the right one - if I decide to go for that, of course.
