For a long time this stock has been a kind of mothership to retreat to when the pirates appear on the horizon.

It has weathered the storm of Andrew Moss, the financial crash, Preference shares, Adrian Montague, the failure to attract star players and even Tulloch. Now AV. has struck its colours over the dividend. It's time to cut loose.

Fortunately I had already started the move and hold two other insurers which have the confidence to command their own ships despite the perfect storm of covid19.

Still goes XD 23 April. Might wait a bit and consider buying more in a day or two.

I'd like to think LGEN will stick to their guns and shame the rest.

Just got back into this at £2.34. Had taken profits some time ago at £2.74.

Despite the doom and gloom, I am happy to have got into Shell yesterday. I do feel they have a strong position in the longer term because increasingly they are looking to be a premier league energy company instead of a premier league oil company. This should happen however hard the Saudis try to cheapen oil, the sooner we can sideline the ****pit of the Middle-East and reduce carbon the better in my view. However, we will always need energy providers of Shell's class.

RDSB are hanging on to the dividend with grim determination. And better placed to do so than some.

Took some profits this morning. Gives me some trading cash. It goes where it goes.

At least HSBA pays the dividend in dollars.

I didn't put up a fortune to invest in SEE but it is top of my leader board for percentage lost, and that's by a very big margin.

I treat my stake as lost money for now, it's not even worth enough to sell. Just dots on a screen.

Although the 1929 crash was steep, wasn't there a fairly quick recovery in the USA?

Anyway, HSBA may turn out to be a good bet as it is possible that its markets will recover sooner that in Western countries, especially in areas dependent on Asian imports.

Just traded a ship load into this stock. It's lost more than some of my dodgier companies so on paper my losses have reduced by 8%. Every little helps.

The situation is a game-changer everywhere you look. Economies are bound to take a hit and expectations have to be adjusted downwards for the short to medium term.

In the insurance world the actuaries are going to be working overtime to assess how the threat to the elderly will affect life-expectancy, already in decline. Now the boomer generation may well thin out a lot quicker, annuities payments will fall and pension savings cashed in.

I don't fear for the future of Aviva, their portfolio managers are tonnes better at investing than I am.

Seems I can't trade myself out of this hole.

But soon my maturing cash bond will be enough to buy the entire company.

If indeed the underlying cause of the slump is the Coronavirus then it's not like a financial crisis.

In 2008 the entire system got locked solid because the problem simply could not be fixed in the short or even medium term in some cases.

With this virus, it's likely we will be able to see the way forward in months if not weeks. Once the fog has cleared the engines can be re-started and the ship be on its way in no time.

Also by that time we will see 5G has moved further ahead, a development that should provide considerable benefits across the board.

There will be those who if they sold up will find they blew it whilst others will have timed it right. I know if I sell up I will be in group one!

On the morbid side, life-expectancy took a hit. That wasn't on the radar soon enough for Life companies to be expected to lower rates until roughly now, and then along comes a pandemic like CV to compound the issue.

Insurers should be run like turf accountants, always ahead of the odds, otherwise they are toast.

It's my view that the implications of the new virus are, on their own, over emphasised. Purely in respect of stock prices, not on the risk to health of those with conditions - that is another matter.

I will continue to trade where I get the opportunity.

Don't know if the tide is turning but just sold the last of my in profit stocks to buy AV. at 351.

Insurance companies will have spread the risk anyway. They can also justify raised premiums.

Like bookies, the system protects them unless they screw up their sums.

Was expecting to buy more but it's too high IMO.
