And the indexed related divi in a useful hedge v inflation in a low interest rate environment. Not much impairment for bad debts either considering the macro environment. It will probably retrace a little in a Santa claus rally being a defensive share but like other posters this share looks good under 900p. Not selling any myself as I put the divis back into shares.
I have at last broken even today, well on 1000 shares I walked away with £129 profit after dealing, plus I took £228 in dividends. Seeing a rise of 32p when I sold, and a 14p dividend It was time!
I'd like to have quite a few by the time I retire, though as the yield is very good compared to a bank rate...just not yet as there are other stocks to make more than 4% a year on at the moment.
I'll be back in around 850p.
Volcano - nice one, no additional trades for me today.
Am benefitting on some of my holdings with the recent move back into cyclicals, but keep a watching eye on some of my FTSE favourites, which are drifting back into my " buy territory" for longer term holds.
It's a different trading landscape this year over the past few years where you could buy in and ho!d for a period of time on a trade.
Atm to me it's a case of get in - get your price then get out again.
Tomorrow always seems to bring further opportunities.
Time for a long walk lol.

Gerry,
a small trade just under £9 and sold around £9.30, that is it for today ,i will be resting and keep an eye on US markets.
Thanksgiving tomorrow so we could have selloff today.STOB is looking good .
Morning Volcano - did you get in early doors, maybe around £9 or just below. Nice trade if you did mate.
I decided to sit it out so missed it today.
Been in and out of this one many times, over the last 5 years.
Anything above £9 is just a little too warm for me, will keep a watching brief - prefer an entry at around £8 - £8.50 range.
Watch it shot northwards now, lol.
May be a chance for me later in the year. To me a pretty safe share, maybe an ex div dip play.

939.60 GBX +43.40 (4.84%),not bad at all, nice
Thats almost a good reason to buy in then, dougie is negative!
You are of course aware that prices are set in 5 year periods? so all things being equal which they are generally when spread across 100% of the same customers, would indicate not a lot of alteration in anticipated income.
Unfortunately I can't see many positives in the statement. SP doing well for now but I'm not confident this will continue. Future redundancies and likely another recession not good for UU. This however will be offset by UU being viewed as defensive play in tough times.
Hope the late buys mean someone has had a peek at tomorrow's trading statement GLA
To be fair the SP is an aberration ! but with non existent rate on short term cash anyone’s guess how long it will last and indeed because the earnings are safe the aberration maybe accentuated even more! As long as you know what you have got!
Well just lk at the PE and dividend compared with earnings!
This has been on a down trend For the last few weeks. I know it went ex div but the falling price goes well beyond that. Anyone have any idea why ?
Thanks Crocqman,
It's a lot clearer now, appreciate your help.
Cheers.
mickey1,
Just stumbled across the comments here (don't usually look in).
What are you trying to understand from the RNS?
Without reading it too much, it looks like a Fixed Income issue for Asset Managers, II's and other Professional Investors to invest up to the new issue amount of 50m, taking the total issue to 350m. Interest payable annually at 2% until expiry in 2033, when capital will be repaid,
My take is that they are basically raising an additional 50m in the market.
The mention of Professional Investors suggests that PI's could participate in the offer (subject to minimum investment amount).
Put very simply, a bit like you taking out a 2 year savings bond at your bank.
That's my take on this. Not sure if it answers your question, but will try and add if there is anything more you are looking to find out.
The ratings are based on how secure/risky UU are as a company according to the official rating companies, so will be risk-based which firms will use to stick within their internal investment restrictions when deciding whether they can invest. The quoted ratings make it reasaonably low-risk (i.e. company is in good financial health)
This document doesn't seem to state what the money will be used for. It will be in the original offer document.
Don't know if anybody has read today's RNS?. If so, can anybody put this into laymans terms so that it could be more easily understood.
Would appreciate an explanation. Cheers.
Brilliant buy at under 870.
Good results and divvi secured for June. Surprised at the sharp fall today.
looks as though the August dividend is to go ahead. When does the AMP7 start? GLA
Good replies about UV! There was a time when gilts were the safe haven and for a bit of yield - UU have performed well for investors since they were 400p in financial crisis! How long will it last if the worst recession ever is coming soon c/o Chancellor of Exchequers words!

Whether UV is any good (regardless of the authorised consent conditions) will also depend on the turbidity of the final effluent water being discharged into the clearing watercourse. If the water is (in simple terms) cloudy then pathogens 'hide' behind the particles in the water and are shielded from its neutralising effect. Its all pretty clever stuff, but rest assured if its needed in any particular location the water companies will be complying.
Actually water charges for metered supply very reasonable in NW with UU but the surface water charge is very expensive to take away clean water. Getting a rebate very difficult and they exclude you from claiming if have a water butt!
Maybe the use of UV well it’s been done at Scarborough is needed now. It seems not so easy to use UV to make impotent viruses in other contexts too- with humans where maybe sunlight not stressed enough or in air conditioning systems in planes!
final effluent treatment choices are not made by water companies. If the environmental regulators deem it neccasary then they instruct water companies to install UV and set prescribed limits of minimal treatment, the same as they do for ammonia levels for example, its all set out in discharge permits.
Ive operated many major sewerage treatment works, probably 50% have UV plants, which dont kill viruses by the way, they just render them impotent.
I wonder when the herd will appear hunting for dividends that so far are still in place? GLALTH. Keep safe.
Would be good if UU spent some of our money installing ultra violet treatment of all discharges to eliminate viruses into bathing water!
