What’s the use of their rubbish dividend 4% !
all the **** they are dumping now better when share back to 400p or are nationalised. better back to 400p with a nice divi !
Must admit I'm out. Must have held here here 6 or 7 years (I don't keep detailed records for my ISA and a broker change a few years back precludes me from accessing deals on that platform) but I don't see a great immediate future. The looming General Election may well bring threats of renationalisation or at least pressure to take improvement at least partially from profits, brokers don't seem to keen and the SP close to even their targets. GLA
Over £3m in three trades after hours would suggest others see things differently. GLA
Will be better for all when Sp back to 400p and 5% divi. Less costs the ordinary bill payers have to carry for the dividends.
Totally and utterly incompetent , and given rewards for failure , in other words a typical British business . Huge salaries , huge cars , huge bonuses and greatly useless , all in the Old Boys Network . Again time for change.
Don't forget OFWAT are complicit in all this as they have been allegedly monitoring and liaising with the water companies.
With the bombshell yesterday , stating that there are numerous sewage overflows into our rivers daily , which resulted in the share price dropping dramatically , I would like to ask the following question. Those in authority who knew this news was to be broken , with the apology on the television, how many sold their shares prior to this , including their friends and family ? The Government should look into their share dealings prior to the announcement . It is always the honest small shareholder that suffers . Now we are being blamed for getting a small return on our holdings we cannot win , so reduced dividend if any at all , and all our bills will go up to pay for so called improvements . And those at the top will give themselves bonuses for their failure along with their massive salaries. Time for change !!!
Thanks for that RoyGa. Water pollution is certainly one of the most urgent environmental issues that we face as a society, but it's too easy to simply blame water companies for this. The current model is based on ongoing discussion between OFWAT and water companies to decide how much capital expenditure should be made by the companies and how much profit is reasonable on top of that. OFWAT is clearly mindful that if capital expenditure is 'too high' then it is consumers who will have to 'pay the bill'. Yet, we have creaking water infrastructure that urgently needs to be upgraded and if it is not then we will continue to have these horrific spills and ensuing environmental degradation.
The government clearly needs to get more involved in deciding how much we should spend, how the cost is split between central tax allocations and consumer bill increases and how, and to what extent, businesses are incentivised for their role in delivering the improvements. I don't think we necessarily need a Labour-style nationalisation agenda, but if this is not effectively regulated and managed then this could be where this goes. The Thames Tidal Tunnel, with it's cost of c£5Bn, is an interesting case study, with the involvement of Thames Water, government, OFWAT and SPVs in its funding. From what I've read, though, there may be many lessons to be learned!
The reason I invest in utilities like UU, is that they give a clear and stable rate of return which seems to be reasonable and they perform a useful social and economic purpose. It feels like a perfect long-term investment for my pension fund. I have bought and sold a couple of times (I'm thinking about it now, because the SP is starting to get a bit toppy in my book), but generally I sit on it and reinvest the divi.
According to Environment Agency data, the most polluting water company in England last year was United Utilities.Boss of UK’s most polluting water firm made £1.4m from shares before retiring

Anyone got any ideas why this share is falling?
Few days after x dividend this has been going up. Is it time to sell before they drop back.
up she goes again. GLA
We now know why? Finance director going.GLA
Who SM sold his share to? GLA
Don't banks and building societies have to pay staff?
Cannot see 400 again but maybe 600. Maybe not quite that. These have been a good hedge with low % rates and will be again but shares need a premium over cash in bank or building society agree and they will have rising costs including paying for staff !
Give it a few months and the way things are going you'll get 7% in tbe building society and money safe from share price movement ie a big freaking drop .I've been looking at one year fixes and as I type I can get 5% wait till mid January rate hike kicks in they'll be falling all over them selves to give a better rate down side is 20%tax
Having said that this gives good dividend and going x dividend tomorrow so sp will go down tomorrow by probably by same amount.
Yes everyone needs water but UU profit also comes from business. If we have rescission they will go down and they have debts
then
