I lost 10k here....but I've taken a token 500 shares at 470 .....just leave em for the longterm
Is this the first he has bought back since he sold 4.4m a couple of years ago?
Just added a few you never know
Yea don’t think he’s bought for along time maybe he might just buy the rest good luck all
well Tim has just invested and he should know!
Wjt, ezj was similar at lockdown, done better than us year to date. This is shares: anything possible, gla.
Airlines..... not spoons......I got burnt here badly on the drop
Thanks all for your thoughts. I went in at 444 so fingers crossed!!
Keep in mind that even in pre-gloom times, JD only paid minimal divs so there is little support in a slump. Yes its a good company, well run and I use it as do most but the share price is a popularity poll. Keep a few but don't expect them to keep you.
Agree with Markh & Saab, this is a good buy in price for long term.
However I still don't think you should follow bb advice!
I bought £10k’s worth at 450p yesterday. As a former Spoon’s employee of 5 years, I think it’s a solid investment.
Dont think your risking much at these levels, most of us bought much higher!
I've been following spoons since they were in the mid 900's. I've got 10k to invest for my sipp. I've been umming and arring all that time. I know 'dyor'. The latest report didn't read too bad I thought.... Opinions whether to invest 10k would be appreciated. Thanks
Wjt & shaun, I agree with you but clearly the markets didn't today. Give it time: I shall.
Spoons will survive and in theory thrive. Just need to limp past the next 6 months.
Mine was virtually dead at 5pm last Friday does that cancel yours out?
Pretty decent trading update IMO. One of the smaller holdings in my portfolio but looking to increase slightly throughout 2023. The spoons in my local town is always pretty full, if they can keep suppling "decent grub at very affordable prices" compared to most local pubs then I see no reason why they cannot continue to improve results going forward. GL all
The spoons in Rainham Kent called the railway was absolutely rammed last Friday at 5pm
Sitting in very nice sea view Greene King Pub…free Wi-Fi..free BT sport
Heating off at home (haha)
Wingman says historically depressions have resulted in pubs doing well
I suppose I could ask barman if we could have Bloomberg on but think that would be pushing it !
Fullers pubs (FSTA) issued a profit warning today.
"Since the start of October, we estimate that industrial action has reduced our sales by some £4 million and the consequent impact on profitability means that we now expect to report earnings below market expectations for the full year. "
My local spoons has been dead for weeks. Wouldn't be surprised to see the SP tanking over next few months.
I think we’ll all have a better idea Wednesday when they publish a trading update. The Spoons I’ve been in recently have been steady or heaving, but certainly not quiet. It‘ll be interesting to see where the company is in terms of Lfl sales and a potential return to profits. GLA DYOR.
RPW talks about Truss's actions now being history and yet mentions stuff from 2008 when there was a global recession. The same playbook repeated - all the current issues are due to Russia and covid but all the older global issues were Labour's fault. Unbelievable.
Just out of interest how much was wasted on an unworkable test and trace system and unusable PPE??
Incidentally i am not a Northern and not left wing!

Estate value has limited relevance in my view, dadean. The freehold is an asset ie helps generate inflows. For example, JDW are paying interest of £x pa for a building rather than rent of £3x pa, and it follows that their prices and profit margins will struggle to be bettered
I agree though that looking at NAV vs mkt cap is a good acid test and it is very easy to conclude that this share is trading below a conservative estimate of NAV
We are all familiar with the comment in the annual accounts that the estate of pubs has not been revalued since 1999. Does anyone have an idea of or have read of what the true value might be? is it 100% of the carrying value 120? 160? 200?
Thats an important one when it comes to the share. I did have a looka t teh recent accounts by 2010 they had 775 pubs so if the bulk of those were sill JDW not revalued, what are they worth now? since 2010 suppose real estate up 60% since 2000??? up 150%
definately looks bad at the moment but it wont be like this for ever -- 2 years down the road could be better than now, lets hope see, thoughts greatly received
