Agree with Markh & Saab, this is a good buy in price for long term.
However I still don't think you should follow bb advice!
I bought £10k’s worth at 450p yesterday. As a former Spoon’s employee of 5 years, I think it’s a solid investment.
Dont think your risking much at these levels, most of us bought much higher!
I've been following spoons since they were in the mid 900's. I've got 10k to invest for my sipp. I've been umming and arring all that time. I know 'dyor'. The latest report didn't read too bad I thought.... Opinions whether to invest 10k would be appreciated. Thanks
Wjt & shaun, I agree with you but clearly the markets didn't today. Give it time: I shall.
Spoons will survive and in theory thrive. Just need to limp past the next 6 months.
Mine was virtually dead at 5pm last Friday does that cancel yours out?
Pretty decent trading update IMO. One of the smaller holdings in my portfolio but looking to increase slightly throughout 2023. The spoons in my local town is always pretty full, if they can keep suppling "decent grub at very affordable prices" compared to most local pubs then I see no reason why they cannot continue to improve results going forward. GL all
The spoons in Rainham Kent called the railway was absolutely rammed last Friday at 5pm
Sitting in very nice sea view Greene King Pub…free Wi-Fi..free BT sport
Heating off at home (haha)
Wingman says historically depressions have resulted in pubs doing well
I suppose I could ask barman if we could have Bloomberg on but think that would be pushing it !
Fullers pubs (FSTA) issued a profit warning today.
"Since the start of October, we estimate that industrial action has reduced our sales by some £4 million and the consequent impact on profitability means that we now expect to report earnings below market expectations for the full year. "
My local spoons has been dead for weeks. Wouldn't be surprised to see the SP tanking over next few months.
I think we’ll all have a better idea Wednesday when they publish a trading update. The Spoons I’ve been in recently have been steady or heaving, but certainly not quiet. It‘ll be interesting to see where the company is in terms of Lfl sales and a potential return to profits. GLA DYOR.
RPW talks about Truss's actions now being history and yet mentions stuff from 2008 when there was a global recession. The same playbook repeated - all the current issues are due to Russia and covid but all the older global issues were Labour's fault. Unbelievable.
Just out of interest how much was wasted on an unworkable test and trace system and unusable PPE??
Incidentally i am not a Northern and not left wing!

Estate value has limited relevance in my view, dadean. The freehold is an asset ie helps generate inflows. For example, JDW are paying interest of £x pa for a building rather than rent of £3x pa, and it follows that their prices and profit margins will struggle to be bettered
I agree though that looking at NAV vs mkt cap is a good acid test and it is very easy to conclude that this share is trading below a conservative estimate of NAV
We are all familiar with the comment in the annual accounts that the estate of pubs has not been revalued since 1999. Does anyone have an idea of or have read of what the true value might be? is it 100% of the carrying value 120? 160? 200?
Thats an important one when it comes to the share. I did have a looka t teh recent accounts by 2010 they had 775 pubs so if the bulk of those were sill JDW not revalued, what are they worth now? since 2010 suppose real estate up 60% since 2000??? up 150%
definately looks bad at the moment but it wont be like this for ever -- 2 years down the road could be better than now, lets hope see, thoughts greatly received
Sadly the majority shop online nowadays. Paying for goods with US credit cards, to US corporations. Pushing what little wealth this country has to our US 'friends'.
Try telling those whose mortgages are about to soar on the back of that demented trollop's mini budget that it was "just a blip". LOL
Spoken like a true whinging Northern Labour supporter. What Truss did was such a blip anyone with any sense knows that's history.
We've still not recovered from the last Labour government when they spent all the money (as well as Brown selling all the gold)!!!
MB Maybe in Knightsbridge or Henley on Thames the shops are heaving. Don't see much evidence of that in Burnley, Bolton or Blackburn though? I think the economy is quite capable of tanking on the after effects of Trussonomics without the press talking it up! Oh and don't come back with the war in Ukraine line, it won't be another Falklands riding to the rescue of an ideologically divided and bankrupt regime. LOL
The likes of you mate are talking us all into recession. Recession obsession.
The press want one, don't help them.

Window shopping the shops are losing a fortune best you sober up and see things like they really are it’s reality mate
I've never in my life read such gloom. Seems we're all talking ourselves in a state of no return.
Jesus, these boards are enough to make you want to walk to the nearest bridge.
There's **** loads of money about. My local spoons is heaving all the time. All the shops are heaving. Many an expensive product is being bought.
Think it's time to come off LSE for Xmas.
Lucky 2023 everyone...
Death play it don’t matter how cheap Jdw are the kind of clientele they attract sadly have not got as much spare money as they used to and the kids of today are loading up at home before venturing out. Everything Tim has done he has done to save things but sadly the cost of living bills etc train strikes is all out of his hands people have cut back on how many days they are going out etc etc sadly this is going to fall a lot lower than it is now in the coming winter months
I agree the sector will need to navigate choppy waters Doug, but I believe they have the most robust business model. It would appear Timbo has cashed the interest rate hedge at the right time as interest rates appear to be normalising significantly lower then when it was cashed. An exciting time to be invested
