B777Captain,
Don't be surprised that you will be questioned if you talk about real topics or even challenges ;) It will be taken by few as an offense. It happens with me although I am long in WIZZ and being here to get useful information for my decisions and provide for others. Let them be longs or shorts. I don't mind. Disregard those who can post only "60 GBP by end of week" or the psychopaths posting only about "big fall and big war".
Comparing RYR and WIZZ on micro KPI level is useful but it is not completely apple to apple in my view. Like maintenance CASK or CASM. In one hand it is pure accounting how they book their cost. I'am 100% sure RYR is best in class in cost management. But you manage your cost differently when you lease or own an aircraft. For leased aircraft you might not even book your cost of engine maintenance as "maintenance cost" but rather accrue it or pay as a reserve for the lessor and return the aircraft after 8-10 years. So the cost appears elsewhere in the books. Or heavy maintenance. Wizz is fully outsourced, paid to the provider while RYR does it, or partly does it in house or through joint ventures. Different cost model. Comparing Total CASM is still not apple to apple in my view. At the end what matters is net profit, and growth potential.
When it comes to aircraft type Airbus hit big with the 321Neo and it seems it has better operating economics than the MAX. But we don't know what price RYR gets from Boeing for staying with the 737. We also don't know, despite the seemingly better aircraft type, how long the P&W issue will last for WIZZ. There must be a reason why WIZZ haven't decided yet on the engine type for like 170 AC. Announcement was expected in April but I haven't heard anything so far. I wish they'd chosen CFM for all their NEOs . That GE/Safran technology is just bulletproof. If you really a 777 captain you will know what I mean.
My speculation is that WIZZ has better growth potential especially in the less saturated CEE/ME and Asian market. Also believe the 321NEO was a better choice in general and the worst of the P&W issue is over but the share price is still beaten down. That is my play here. Should the price were 30-40 GBP already with the actual challenges I most likely would be in a Volaris forum ;). Let's see what they tell us tomorrow.
