RE: Barclays - they're at it again!18 Nov 2020 08:49
After the last debacle with Barclays I was going to leave them, if you remember. But I wanted to make sure that my transfers into ISA and the conversion of Erris Resources were successfully bedded in before doing so. This is now the third episode of utter incompetence that I've suffered at the hands of Barclays, so I'm definitely off as soon as we an get the Erris holding credited to my name.
I'd really appreciate folks' recommendations as to where to take my business instead. There's a multiplicity of websites you can Google along the lines of 'Best online sharedealing providers'. But they nearly all focus on research platforms and, particularly, dealing costs. I'm not interested in these. I deal so little that I couldn't really care less if I am paying £5 or £10 or £20 per trade. In view of my experiences with Barclays, my absolute No. 1 criterion is Customer Service. I want to be assured that if I do have a query I can communicate easily with someone who is a) Quickly accessible; b) Friendly and knowledgeable; and c) With the willingness and authority to get on to it straight away. I do NOT want another Barclays, where their website reveals no phone number (I've had to winkle this out for myself), no postal address (ditto) and not even an email address, and where, if the nature of your query does not fit into the pre-ordained categories on the drop-down menu, you fall at the first hurdle, and the only means to make contact is by 'webchat'. With my very modest portfolio I hardly expect coffee and biscuits with my broker in his oak-panelled office, but I would like to be able to converse with someone in whom I can have confidence.
Please, please don't tell me that they're all as bad as each other and I might as well stick with Barclays!
