dPCR, reduction on the use of reagents and increase of shelf life from 6months to 18months are important innovations from NCYT.
UK Govt had vision to see a new UK Diagnostic Capability was required.
Manuufacturing at scale and the testing of the tests needs to be addressed.
Use of bad tests will be seen as counterproductive in the fight against covid 19.
Gates also slammed governments for not preparing for a pandemic by simulating possible scenarios and stress-testing their infrastructure.

Qiagen manufacturing had increased from 1.5 million kits a month to 20 million per month. Unable to meet demand.
Roche warns that "due to the high demand on reagents and consumables the supply situation may be challenging in the short term in some cases".
Hopefully NCYT with dPCR can maintain manufacturing capability without the bottleneck from chemical reagents.
With the additional manufacturing capability, can manufacturing be increased to 20M? The market is demanding more and more testing.

The point (that your wifes comment made to me) was had the UK independently verified the Thermo Fisher test assay when Thermo Fisher walked in 10DS on 17/18th March 2020?

Lets ask the question to our political masters.
Our NHS and our nation deserve to be tested by the best tests. There are only 3 tests recommended by the WHO: Roche, Primerdesign and Abbott. Therm Fisher test assay is not on the list.
Why is the Thermo Fisher test assay not WHO approved?

My thoughts may be wrong, but if I am correct , implications on many fronts could be massive.

I recall, I made the comment (see my post 1/4/20), that three suppliers have been down selected to provide the UK with a covid 19 PCR test.

Without a vaccine thevonly way firward may be Professor Peto (30M tests per day) or Harvard Academia approach 100M tests/day) for the UK and US respectively. Professor Peto approach

The implications are massive.
Testing at these levels may not warrant the necessity of a vaccine... interesting comment. I think a vaccine is needed. However, the bigger picture is the lock down of people and economies. Without testing we get wave after wave of new outbreaks and the whole process we are going through now may be required.
Its more immediate and 'controlled' to go down the test path. Are these volumes required? Achievable?
I suggest Govt's need to engage more with the WHO to have a global strategy.
WHO recommended tests need to be implemented.
US flooded with bad tests due to FDA EUA process not validating the conformance to positive test cases. UK had an issue with the inhouse PHE test.
Lots ok unknowns. But no doubt lots of tests globally required and demand massively outstrips supply. Would a T/O occur?
Does Primerdesign need even greater manufacturing output to meet the global demand? To be in the top tier the answer is undoubtedly yes!
