I reduced when we were at 460 and thought of buying back today but didn’t. The possible likelihood of demand destruction made it seem a bit too risky. Instead, I’ve increased my holdings in Aviva and LGen, both of which have taken big hits in the last few days. Would be nice to think the bottom has been reached. Regarding BP, I still think we’ve a goodish chance of another good peak with November results.

Yes, you make a good point. There is certainly a case to be made, both economically and morally for good publicly funded services.

Saying that Europe is where we are sounds clever but isn’t. It’s like saying Japan is part of China. The UK has a distinct history not uninfluenced by having a moat. Not everything in Britain is rubbish. We don’t have rabies and we didn’t gas our Jews.

I recently congratulated myself on having exited Cineworld before the disaster. Now I’m wishing I’d got out of DLG too. I’m 42% down at the moment. No idea where this is heading. Takeover?

A month ago, when we’d just dropped from the 460s to the 420s, some fellow called Buzle was on this site talking about 350p. Most of the posters laughed at him or said he was de-ramping because he was shorting. Well....we are now in the 380s. Who is laughing now? I’m not.

I think you’re right the rally will continue. In fact it’s virtually guaranteed as I have just reduced by 20%!
Seriously, I’ve been carrying a big loss for a long time and was too heavily exposed on this one so am happy to have got my money back at 460p.
I don’t think we’ve reached the peak for this quarter but it will come sooner or later. Thereafter, we can expect a bit of a fall back then a higher peak following November’s results. Provided, of course, recession worries don’t clobber us.

I’d have thought the buybacks would stabilise the price a bit but, given the scale of the buyback programme, maybe they just buy every day regardless whether the price is up or down.
I’d planned to reduce at 470 so am a bit miffed at just having missed it but, like Chandley, I don’t think it will be long before I get my chance again.

If only share prices were dictated by the business prospects of the company concerned! Buzle is quite right that 350p is a possibility. I think it’s too easy to forget that we closed at 374.5 as recently as 7th March this year. Same great results anticipated. Same return of capital promised etc etc.
And weren’t we at 470 just a couple of weeks ago? Did the 50p drop that we’ve suffered since then come from any change in the company’s prospects? No. 10.3p can be accounted for as divi drop but that’s it.
We just have to face it that share prices cannot be predicted in the short term. If they could then we’d all be millionaires.

I too am a bit annoyed with some of the plainly wrong figures quoted on “reputable” sites. Last week, on BP we had the nonsense where a broker’s view of “sell” with a very low target was listed as being for BP when it was really for “BT”. These things go uncorrected and I am sure a few people make decisions based on them.
Re the SP, I’m sorry to see it slip about double the divi but I’m hoping to top up on one or two of the really bad panic days that there are bound to be between now and next results day next spring. This is definitely a share worth having a lot of.

We seem both to have bought into BP for the same reasons and at just the wrong time. My average is 480 and I’ve had a virtually permanent paper loss since I bought. Meoryou has pointed out that the early stages of each quarterly buyback programme send the SP up to peak levels before dropping back. I would hope we’d reach about 470 in this quarter and if you’re anxious to reduce then you may get that opportunity without too severe a loss in the next month or so. Longer term, I think there will be good rewards it’s a question of whether personal circumstances make that sensible. Good luck anyway.
