I know what you are saying. We are, indeed, getting more in GBPs because of the exchange rate but that isn’t what Auntie Beeb is saying. The bbc is saying that the company will be increasing its payment by 10%.
The irony is that the BoD has been carefully trying not to attract hostile attention by not lifting the divi. Now it seems we are getting the ignominy of being fat cat capitalists, dining on turtle soup, eaten from a golden spoon, without actually getting our hands on the extra lolly!

With respect, what the site says is that. BP “will also give their shareholders a boost by increasing their dividend payment by 10%”. That clearly indicates that the dividend increase is a future event. Anyone assiduously following BBC coverage would be saying to themselves that this 10% comes just after a 10% increase last quarter. I am in no doubt that this was not an innocent misrepresentation but is motivated either by political bias or at the very least by the kind of headline grabbing journalism that sees facts as the raw material that needs to be embellished before it can be put before the public.

Did anyone else notice that the BBC news website is saying that our divi is going up 10%. This is a blatant LIE. Why should we be surprised. Bears do what they do in the woods and the BBC tells lies.

I’m not sure how safe Rishi’s pair of hands are. The hole in public finances that is the main “challenge” for him was in large measure caused by his irresponsible pouring out of money during the panicdemic.

It’s entirely a matter of one’s own personal viewpoint. You were lucky /astute enough to buy in sub 200. You have seen capital growth of 125%. You are getting 20p annual returns on each share, a “personal yield” of 10%. What’s not to like? Long term holders who bought in the 500s have had a 10% loss in capital value and are getting a 4% return on their outlay. Hence the frustration.
You make the good point that the trajectory is upwards. With oil price the way it is I think Diane Abbott would be able to make profits. The question is whether the upward trajectory would continue if Brent returned to more normal levels.

Agreed. I am getting fed up with the predictions of jam tomorrow. That applies both to predictions of SP and the prospects for divi increase. I’m waiting for November results and hoping a good result will produce a small spike. Then I’m out. I’ve speculated recently on LGen and with three trades I’ve made 15% profit when the SP has actually fallen over the four month period. This seems an easier way to make money than backing Looney’s “we are no longer an oil company” appeasement strategy.
It’s a tale of two Bernard’s really. Bernard Matthews started with a turkey and turned it into a profitable company. Bernard Looney started with a profitable company...... (well, you’re not idiots).

Yes, broker views are a nonsense. Barclays have been talking 700p for months. Imagine going into a branch of Barclays and asking for a loan. The manager asks what collateral you have. You say “100, 000 BP shares, currently worth 450p each, that’s £450, 000 just now but in a year’s time your analyst says it’ll be worth £700,000 so give me a loan of that amount now. Don’t think you’d get it.

I think I’d like politicians if they were less charismatic and just a bit more competent at running things.

Yes. Labour had the same problem with Corbyn. The difference was that they weren’t in government at the time so it wasn’t quite so important. The current Conservative system OUGHT to work in that there should be two strong, competent people who then go forward to the “dance off” in front of the party members. The tragedy (for everybody who wants Britain to be well governed) is that the Parliamentary Conservative Party could not find two ( or even one) decent person.
I despair for democracy. I really worry that with Trump, Biden, Boris and Truss, people will lose all confidence in the process. It’s already happening.

The problem is that Truss was not the choice of Conservative MPs. She was way behind Sunak and only 2 % ahead of the eliminated candidate. The “swivel eyed loons” picked her because she didn’t have a tax fiddling wife and maybe because she was white. I believe she still has both these attributes.

Nick, you’ll be hoping that DLG has reached the bottom, given they’ve dropped 60p (25%) since June? I think you could be right. Their issue was claims inflation in their motor insurance. Not affected (so far as we know) by the current issues.

Nick, I don’t understand the bit about Thatcher “handing the power to Labour”. Margaret Thatcher won three successive GeneralElections before being toppled by her own party in 1990. Her successor, John Major, went on to win another election in 1992. 18 years of Conservative government finally came to an end when Tony Blair embraced some of Thatcher’s policies and won in 1997. I understand your anger but facts are facts.

You are right about the cyclical pattern. I have made quite a bit with small, speculative investments, buying when I see a sudden, panic fall and waiting, sometimes for just a few days for recovery. I am content with small returns regularly repeated. Today is definitely a “buy” day.
