I’ve been in DLG for a couple of years and have an average of 307p. We waved goodbye to £3 in Feb 2022 and slid to the 230s by July 13th. The hammer blow of July 14 and subsequent days took us below £2. From that point, I regarded my DLG holding as frozen. I would not consider selling and would be content with the divis. There is now no reason to hold but also no reason to sell. I pin my hopes on a longer term recovery. I’m lucky that DLG is only 5% of my portfolio. My sympathy is with those who are in deeper. I’d considered increasing BECAUSE the divi was supposed to be assured. I’m just glad my innate pessimism held me back.

I saw their headline just yesterday which said Aviva had fallen 20%. I thought this was current news and was in response to the cataclysm at DLG. It took half a minute to realise they were talking about a notional fall in value over the past year and that the cliff edge was in May (the return of capital) and not a cliff edge at all. Not a fall in value at all. These people are clowns.
Other clowns include all those analysts who last year were telling people to buy DLG. People like Barclays and Deutsche.

I agree totally. We were down at this level in September last year but the difference is that at that time we had every reason to believe assurances that the divi was secure. Now we know the Board were either being stupid or lying to us. Throwing money into buybacks when they knew a cut in divi (far less an extinction of divi) would massacre the SP beggars belief. Was that part of a charade of normality? Bit like the Titanic captain posting notices about next week’s tiddlywinks fixtures?

Yes. Again it sounds like Nick Clegg (the one who used to be a politician) wearing a t shirt saying he would never increase tuition fees. The more they say they won’t is an indication of how near they are to saying they will.

The statement made me think of “leaves on the line”. As insurers we take CALCULATED risks. We can be knocked sideways by an unforeseen event but winter comes roughly every 12 months. There is no excuse for this.

A 3% drop in Brent and about the same on our SP. Astonishing that we were nearly at £5 yesterday. I reduced slightly yesterday and have bought them back today. Just a small gain but perhaps one that can be repeated between now and results day in about 5 weeks. Longer term we’re really only going in one direction.

I’d like to think the buybacks were scaled back yesterday due to the higher than average price. At one point we were up 4.6% on the day. Maybe we’ll see more today now we’re in the low 470s? Or maybe the money allocated for the quarter has run out.

Bit of a shame that we’ve lost half of our 22p rise but we are still 11p up which has to be good. Do we know if the buyback programme really has been completed for this quarter. I know Meoryou will have the answer.

I agree. Its good to be able to come to this board on down days and be reminded that things are rarely as bleak as they sometimes seem and on up days to celebrate with other holders. Add to that the sensible, informed comment of people who’ve watched these shares and/or know a bit about the industry.

It’s official! Santa has checked his list (twice) and all the current holders of BP are in the “nice” column. I think the ones in the “naughty” column are probably the ones I’ve filtered.

Divi not showing up in my HL account but no doubt will appear soon. Won’t actually be paid into my bank till second week in January so not unduly concerned.

That’s an increase from 330.5 as at Dec 31 2021 to 470 now. That’s a 42% increase. Not “a slow boat to China”. More like a rocket to the moon!

I know nothing but could it be that the unclaimed Rosneft divi will be one of the assets of the BP stake and the right to claim it will be sold along with the shares? Even a fire sale would result in quite a significant return.

Funny, but I don’t hear MPs clamouring for penalties against India for cashing-in on the war in Ukraine. Wonder why? (!)

2. Emotive talk about “blood money” devalues the term. There are real atrocities going on in the world and holding onto an investment in one form or another in what was, until recently, a friendly country isn’t one of them.
