SP is just dribbling away. Each day another penny or two down. I remember last July when we dropped from 236 to 208 in a single day. At the time that seemed like a disaster. I’ve now lost 54% and, irrationally, I would rather write off the remains 46% than sell at my current loss. Hope it won’t come to that.

You are right about the bottom drawer. I am down a bit over 50% now. I will probably hold forever in the hope of dividends sometime. With CGT threshold going dow to £3000 next year 2024-5, the other possibility is to sell at at a massive loss to offset any unusually good gain that I might make.
Just glad I didn’t top up last Autumn in the expectation of getting the promised divi.

Whilst not disagreeing with your criticism of Bailey, I have to take exception to your assertion that Britain is a great country for rewarding incompetence. My own personal experience tends to show otherwise. My level of incompetence would be difficult to match but sadly I was never rewarded for it. Perhaps I should complain to some tribunal?!

“Slashes” in the headline sounds dramatic but it turns out to be a cut of $9 so not too worrying.
Weird movements today. Up about 3.5% to 504 now back to where we started. It just shows how uncertain everybody is.

I’m assuming it’s the oil price/ predicted downturn in demand added to the Credit Suisse concerns that have impacted us and Shell heaviest but you’ve got to feel sorry for PRU investors who get brilliant results, enhanced divi and drop about 13% on the same day.

The other good news is that we’ve reached closing so we’ve got 15 and a half hours before it can get any worse! Taking a slightly longer view, we were in the 470s as recently as 6th Feb, the day before our results.Im gloomy but not despairing.

That everybody is down, not just us, is the consolation. It’s panic across the board. Aviva reported a 35% profit increase last Thursday and is down about 13% since then. Hold tight!

I did top up yesterday but I’m a bit more worried by today’s further drop. Looks not to be just the SVB panic but related to this story of pension funds wanting to de-rail the “stay with carbon” strategy. Hopefully it’ll come to nothing.

Not a good day for me either as I’m also in Aviva and Direct Line. There’s logic with Direct Line (6% down on reporting a full year loss) but no logic anywhere else. If I’d more courage, I’d be topping up.

We all thought Stockready was a wee bit optimistic with his competition entry of 540. How wrong we were. As for me, I was happy to sell some on Tuesday for not much over 500. Today, I’ve bought them back at 560. Maybe I’m daft. Maybe I’m not. I’d have been very put-out if we’d got to 600 or 700 and I still had just the reduced holding.

I made a monster mistake in reducing by 40% on Tuesday. The way things are going, I am seriously thinking about buying back in again even at 20+p higher.

All the best for the future. You are certainly right that it won’t be difficult to replace the income. Today’s results are fantastic and the potential is great but divi remains pretty meagre. Like many on this board, I’ll miss your reasoned, cautious comments.

Wish I’d held my nerve. Reduced by 20% at 503p and another 20% at 511p. Couldn’t believe it would sustain the gains. Well done to everyone who has held. Any dip and I’ll be back in at full strength again.

Funny but I haven’t noticed any vituperation directed towards arms manufacturers like BAE that have seen fantastic SP growth since the Ukraine thing kicked-off. No accusations of “blood money” or other nonsense getting shouted in their faces. Maybe the wokes and the envious aren’t clever enough to see more than one target at a time.
