I think it was me rather than Meoryou that you were thinking of re topping-up near the high of 570p. I did regret it but am now a lot more positive about getting my money back. What’s more, I topped up again at much lower prices so my average is now reasonable again. This has never been a boring share to hold!

Like many of us, I’ve already lost over 50% of my capital on this one. Another 15 or 20% makes little difference. I’ll sit it out regardless. Just glad I didn’t top up when it dropped below 250p!

Not sure if today’s (Monday’s) 4.5% drop is a delayed response to Friday’s news or an anticipation of Thursday’s interim results. Either way, it’s painful.

I think you are right to be optimistic re BRICS expansion and the price of oil. I think, though, that longer term we should see this as a sinister move. The idea that the liberal democracies of the West will be facing an economic coalition of counties that have got nothing in common other than a common hatred of us is worrying. The idea that our Commonwealth “partners”, India and South Africa are in league with a pariah state like Putin’s Russia makes a mockery of the institution. That Iran and China, respectively theocratic and atheistic, will be teaming up says it all.

Bernie said yesterday that India was the future. If the future is stretching out your begging bowl then using the proceeds to buy a knife to stab your benefactor in the back then India is indeed the future.

Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Anyone selling yesterday and buying back today would be about 4p a share down once stamp duty had been included. Often the divi drop is significantly more than the divi but not this time (so far).

Yeah. Sometimes it seems we’re like a coiled spring but on days like today we seem more like a bit of used Brillo pad that found its way behind the taps of the kitchen sink and has gone rusty.

Just to let you know that you’re not posting into a vast empty tunnel. There is at least one other person on the site! The last couple of days must be the quietest on record. We’ll have to wait for folks like Meoryou to come back from holidays.

Anybody buying in now is getting a divi of about 31p a year for an outlay of around 380p. That’s a yield of over 8%. You cannot ignore the yield. It’s not the only factor. You could lose some of your capital and/or the divi could go down but, for the moment, 8% IS 8%.

Whatever the reason, it’s grim to be down 16p from the eve of results day. That’s more than 10p after taking account of the divi! Maybe things will pick up when people come back from their holidays.

You’ve got to remember the cataclysmic drop in DLG from over 300p to about 130p over the past two years. Our Aviva drop has been nothing like so bad so our recovery will not be so dramatic.

Well, the answer to that is “not really”. We don’t qualify for the divi till xd day and then (if it follows the usual pattern) we’ll see “divi drop” ie a drop of roughly the equivalent 11.1p.

I’m not saying this is a bad share to hold, just that it’s disappointing that the results didn’t lift us higher.

Funnily enough, my Direct Line shares lifted about 6% on Aviva’s results. Presumably, the feeling is that the insurance business (at least in some quarters) has weathered the inflationary storm.

We’re 8p down two days before xd date. Could this partly be people selling the divi in anticipation of divi drop? I’d like to think so. Don’t want to see another comparable fall tomorrow too.

The consolation re buybacks over the last couple of days has to be that the volumes have been low (c4 million). On a really bad day, we could expect the company to soften the blow by taking up around 10 million.

... and SP down in the mid 460s. Makes you wonder where we’d be in they hadn’t raised the divi.

Well...... it was nice while it lasted. Looks as though the US hated the results.

It occurs to me that the divi rise (even at 1.28 usd) means we’re getting 22.5p a year. SP at as high as 550p would still be a yield of over 4%. We should definitely be over £5.
