Was wondering the same myself. Would have expected the opposite with people reinvesting their divies. Surely it’s not people who don’t understand the concept of xd date waiting till they get their 4p and then selling?!

Sadly, I’ve got to agree with most of what has been said on this thread. I reduced by a quarter when we were last at 520 (and rising) and now wish I’d sold out completely.

If we get an optimistic burst in the next few months taking us above 510 then I’ll probably call it a day. I’m fed up waiting for “jam tomorrow”. My other investments (Aviva for one) are giving me jam today.

Robleo, Yeah, it’s always a dilemma. Sometimes I’ve sold shares before xd and done well and sometimes it hasn’t paid off. This time, the people who sold in the 490s and are now buying back at 450 have obviously done the right thing. My main point to Caddy, though, was that if you are content to hold and bring in 8% a year then you’re not doing too badly.

I think the question you have to ask yourself is “Was I going to sell at £5 ish?” If the answer is “Yes” and you are still going to sell (because you need the cash) then you have reason to feel disappointed. But, if (like me) you are here for the 8% divi and are going to hold long term then you haven’t lost anything.

I think you must be of the “glass half-empty” frame of mind. I tend to think the other way. I think of the SP growing over the year in anticipation of the divi payouts, 22p in May and 11p in September. I have no problem with SP dropping back by those amounts each time.

I don’t expect capital growth AND high divis. As it is, my average is about 380 so 33p a year is over 8%. What’s not to like?

Thanks for that, my2penneth. I was a bit concerned. I only invested in this one today and thought my timing was unusually bad (even for me) to have dropped 6% within a couple of hours!

Some sites (inc bbc) are showing us down at 234.28, a near 16p drop on the day. Others (including the London Stock Exchange site) are showing us closing at 248.3.

Any ideas?

I’ve topped-up slightly on the fall. I’ve found in the past that where the divi drop is bigger than the actual amount of the divi then there is usually a correction within a short time. Divi payment date usually sees a rise with people using the divi money to reinvest. I’m not worried about this one.

Apart from the “usual selection”, there are also some decent, ordinary people who don’t want to be complicit in the killing of everybody in Gaza as collective punishment for the crimes of Hamas.

People are talking as though the offer was a straight 237p in our hands. The reality is that the Ageas shares that we’d have got could have significantly fallen on the day of issue. If the market thought that DLG was such a toxic car crash of a business then it’s acquisition by Ageas would hardly have enhanced Ageas’s perceived profitability and a fall is exactly what would have been likely. All we were really guaranteed was the £1.20 per share cash.

I don’t know whether there are any other likely suitors but I’m prepared to hold and hope the new CEO can turn things round.

Shabz. I’m in the same position. My average is around 300p so today’s 40p+ spike has to be seen in the context of a previous 150p drop. I’m hanging in and hoping we don’t see a return to 160p if the takeover stories fizzle out. The fact that Ageas wants us suggests we’re a lot better with a lot more potential than the last half year’s results would suggest.

What a difference an hour makes!

A 3% drop seems a bit of an overreaction to just one dismal broker rating if that is indeed what is causing the fall. Do people pay that much attention to target prices? I’ve learned (the hard way) to ignore brokers. Barclays, for sample, has been predicting 1000p for BP for the last 18 months, more than double its current 460p SP.

WP, by “Oxbridge types”, you presumably mean people who got straight A’s at school and worked really hard at two of the best universities in the world?

I understand (from Wiki) that “Ms” Blanc has two daughters. Maybe if she’d had a son who’d failed to get a job because he was the “wrong” gender then she’d have a keener sense of the injustice of it all.
