Tullow Valuation24 Jul 2021 10:39
There are many views at to where the sp should be, usually " oil price is $xx and Tlw sp should be Pxx" without any substantial analysis. The fact is after such a 2 year period of change, it is extremely difficult to get beyond a gut feel for where the sp should be. Just look at what has happend to TLW in 2 years:-
1. Huge downgrade of future production
2. CEO and COO effectively fired
3. Shortly after this Oil Price crash
4. Over 2bln w/o of value of oil assets
5. 6 months looking for a new CEO
6. New management team
7. New strategic plan for the next 10 years
8. Reduced focus on pure exploration
The last point has implications for the speed of Tlw's share price. We've been "maturing" prospects on our acreage for nearly 2 years now and still to announcement of any definite drilling. I agree with the strategy of focusing on developing existing low risk , production related drills, but the price to pay will be the length of time it takes for recovery in the SP. This recovery may be supported by a good set of results mid September, showing a decent profit after all this turmoil. Also a farm down in Kenya and an announcement of a new development plan will have some impact. A farm down in Orinduik and perhaps a carried cost of definite drills in 2022 would help.
The bottom line for me is I don't know what a reasonable valuation of Tullow is at the moment. I don't know why we went from 65p to 46 p in a month. Equally I didn't know why we went from 46p to 65p earlier. We may have a better understanding come Sept 15th
