Repeated message about being over budget even before the pandemic. Hopefully this will negate any attempt to blame the pandemic for breaches of the agreement.

Have to disagree. Where has the 60% attendance viz 2019 to break even come from? I assume its from the profit in 2019 vs income.
Mooky has laid out different scenarios and remains confident of servicing the debt. As long as this is possible, the future is good. Yes, big profits will take a while as debt servicing will eat the profits, but along as one is not after a quick buck, the doom scenario painted is not likely. Vultures will move on in good time IMO.

Re flu, there were genuinely barely any cases of flu last year. Lack of travel, mask wearing, social distance, hand washing etc all played a part. It would be surprising if flu did not re-emerge this year and the worry is people will have lost some of the natural immunity due to the break from infection last year. There will be specialist lawyers advising the companies currently shorting this share I imagine. Worth keeping an eye on the short percentage IMO. This may be quite informative. Depends of course on the delay between change and declaration which is why the system is weighted against the PI.

There will be a lot of press upto the meeting with accompanying oil bashing. Just need to ride it out and continue buybacks at depressed prices.
Come a few months, attention will turn to other issues. Investing is a patient game.

Exactly Mark. These institutions are bloated and have a culture of hubris. The silence on China is astonishing considering they are so keen to jump on every bandwagon going. In the pocket of China, just as the WHO are. Good riddance I say. More cheap shares for us.
Buy backs are not popular, but at these low prices, im still on the side of supporting them (just about mind) for a longer term gain. I'm in BP for at least 3 to 5 years so completely understand reasons for alternative views too. ATB

If these are going to be done, at least this is being done at very low prices. Also provides a floor for the SP. Short term pain but hopefully longer term will be good for those prepared to hold at least for a few years. ATB

Many seem to dislike buy backs and many more people would be aghast at dilution - but is buyback not the opposite of dilution?
So my question is, if share dilution is a very very bad thing for shareholders, why is the very opposite also very bad?

Antmoss, agree. Cine SP is hugely unpredictable. Trying to second guess is not sensible IMO. Just consider the potential and weigh up the risk to reward and decide. I'm here for north of 200 in 2 years or a takeover. US listing is an interesting curve ball that will give shorters a few sleeplessness nights i suspect.

Agree, US listing will be very exciting and a big boost.

Having been shut for majotity of H1 and only partially open for the rest, this is better than expected. Cash burn well within expected. Leaner outfit due to the pandemic and will emerge stronger.
H2 will be profitable and Q4 in particular should be massive. Don't panic sell unless you are desperate for the cash. IMO. ATB

Baz, exactly. Im amazed it has been overlooked so long that cinemas have a large floor space and (Hopefully soon) a large daily footfall. With high streets pretty much moving away from retail to eateries and residential, selling movie merchandise at cinemas must be an attractive option. Even better if they own the cinemas!

On balance it makes sense to buyback when the market is valuing the company less than the executives think its worth.
Frustrating for us current shareholders but the company will know a lot of us PI's have jumped aboard and we are fickle investors in general. Longer term the buybacks may have more value than in the short term share price movement.
So i too would prefer getting the cash but can see the logic of buyback when share price is so low by historical standards.
I don't buy the story that oil giants are dead. Anyone thinking green transition will be quick or cheap or practical for the world is dreaming. Oil is here for a good while yet. Alternative options are ok for the UK but Asia and African nations? Not a chance the dependence on oil will ease up for the next 50 years.
Despite the pandemic, population growth continues and to even stand still on energy requirements will be a feat. The world needs energy from oil and renewable sources just to keep up with population growth related demand.
How many eco champions have more than 2 kids per family? They need to look in the mirror and think before blaming others. All IMO of course and no offense intended to anyone with large families. Its a free world. ATB
