Brent at nearly 85 and folk are worried about BP? Have to say I find all this very surprising. Just wait and hold on for a while. Investing is not just for Christmas!

Lots of profit but underplayed and focused on debt reduction and buybacks rather than dividend payment. To be expected after what shell did.
At least buybacks will stop any significant SP pullback. IMO probably best option given all the negative attention a big profit distribution would have brought.

Jim, special dividend is not until early 22. By then cop26 will be in the past and the conversation will have moved on a bit

Enso, I am coming round to this early adopter line. Wasn't sure about Looney's charge in this direction but picking up green projects early does mean prices are less than they will be later and will offset criticism from the Greta gang. However, I am not sure however much we try and greenwash our oil, the Greta mob will be wanting the end of BP as much as any other oilers. Anyway, on balance I think I am moving behind the project. I've maintained a BP/Shell holding split of 50% to hedge and will see how this pans out. I'm invested for 3-5 years at least os will be around to see where this goes. ATB

Bimmer, same here. I expect we will hit this sometime in 22 but i am not too fussed as always had these as a 3-4 year hold. Will probably bank a few at 25 if it gets there sooner than expected. Meanwhile, I am looking forward to hearing just how much the special divi will be from the asset sale in the US.

The morning was a bit glum but SP recovering well. Paying down debt is an excellent move. Yes, dividend has remained unchanged but we re expecting a special dividend in early Jan too so that should be a factor to include.
Buyback is also helpful in boosting SP, so all good.

Wow, the reaction of some posters to a small drop is a bit ott.
People are entitled to have n opinion. You don't have to agree and by all men's provide a counter, but calling people clowns and delusional is probably not the way to elicit the best response.
Atb and cheer up. SP is still north of 17, something wise people were predicting would not happen for many years.
In the context of the political climate where oil is unpopular, I am glad results have been presented in a way that is not shouting large profit. Would attract unwanted attention from those wanting to climb on the Greta bus.

Imagine shell announced massive returns to shareholders and were seen to be rejoicing and drowning in cash. The lot gathered at Glasgow would have little hesitation in slapping on populist taxes and penalties.

Rise was due to shorts exiting as they did not wish to be buying entitlement. We shall see once short positions are declared in a day or so. IMO

If people were piling back in to buy the entitlement at 1 for 4 to buy at 115, why did they not just wait for today and buy all of it at 115?
When RR did their RI, there were a lot of wise people predicting SP at 32. So, let's see what happens, but this is not a lot of people being muppets as Mary seems to suggest. Atb and Dyor

Probably the only figure that matters in relation to the late reported stuff. Not worth giving it any attention.

I'm not convinced Mary is right here on the record/Ex - does not matter too much to me as I have no intention of selling any and will take up all my offer shares anyway.

The way I look at it is, I have another chance to buy shares at 115. This time, unlike before, they are without the risk. No issues at all. I will buy my entire allocation.
I did not think it would drop to low 120s so well played to those who called it.
Should settle at about 135-140 until all this back and forth is done. After that, it's blue sky ahead. Atb and dyor etc
