Lakshmi - if Macron does win he will be a very lame duck president - no party - few supporters in the General Assembly - outvoted at every turn by the defeated Centrists ! France will simply drift in a political vacuum and the German 4th Reich will march on ! I had to laugh when Corbyn castigated May for "Issuing threats to European leaders !" From what I see it is the EL who are making the running on threatening to severely damage the UK for daring to leave the EU. If the Europeans want a Trade War I am up for it - but they should remember that Napoleon Bonaparte was destroyed by his trade war with Britain and Hitler also failed with his U boat war. The EU nations are already seeing what will happen to their trade balance with the UK post BREXIT - with our £ drop in value against the Euro EU exports to us have already dropped down and will continue to decline IMO - so a trade war will hurt UK but cripple other EU states - we have the whole wide world to trade with once we throw off the EU shackles and we are still the best nation in the world for rolling up our sleeves and recovering from adversity - as that famous oxymoron John Major once said - "When your back is against the wall and you are attacked the only thing you can do is turn round and fight !" Over on my SDX holding I got hammered today over 3% down - finished at 61p but one week ago when a big gas discovery was made the SP hit 71p and now has a book value of 80p, But because the BOD kept drilling down hoping to hit oil the SP has dropped 14% back from its peak !!!! Old adage "If you find yourself at the bottom of a hole STOP DIGGING !" Hopefully SDX will issue a RNS about a big oil discovery soon - I have fingers crossed HOC doing well still - AAL and GLEN and lots of other miners well down today some at 6% down ! Hopefully the miners and energy SPs will recover tomorrow or Friday Regards all

noggers - Ancient Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times !" The last few weeks HAVE been interesting - in the wrong way ! Too much global turbulence - N Korea madness - French political upset - Trumpton tantrums and now our own Local and General Elections. The SM is badly unsettled and cleaving to traditional companies like heavy construction and house builders ! PM out of favour at the moment and so are energy shares. We will just have to weather the storm and wait for calmer waters in a couple of months time. I deal through LLOY for Halifax broker and yesterday LLOY had a big glitch on share dealing - sorted out a couple of hours later but luckily I was not trying to do any urgent trading ! Regards

HOC holding up well today compared to all the other 24 big companies on my watch list. My little SDX is presently taking a hammering from a big investor who is obviously shorting the stock.- I am holding tight for the RNS which is due in the next few days and if good the SP will rocket. Lakshmi - we have a very tolerant BB here - all in the market to make money so we are grateful for any tips on side betting on other shares Regards

Lakshmi - TY for the very interesting info. I have scanned across your babies and agree that timing is everything - big money to be made but I would not be a LTH ! All 25 miners and energy companies on my watch list in the red yesterday - tempting to buy into biggest falling SPs but I am cautious at the mo and only holding HOC and SDX - still no RNS on SDX so could be an excellent buy at 63p - found good gas so far but hopefully will hit oil this week and SP will rocket. If no oil the SP will plunge down but soon recover IMO. SM highly volatile presently but if it runs true to form the miners and energy companies should be up again today - but who knows ? Just when you think all the fundamentals are great we get an unexpected swerve ball - like old man HOC selling 15.5 million shares and the SP drops ! I am also opposed to the self-appointed gurus like Fitch who can arbitrarily boost or scupper a SP with their ratings ! Joke : I once asked a man who lived in Swindon why Swindon folk only ate boiled potatoes - he replied "Because they have no Devizes for Chippenham !" Regards

On 9 March the SP hit 230p but by 16 March it was back up to 291p - I would think 230p is the major support level and history may repeat itself - back up to 290p Fingers crossed Regards all

Lakshmi - profits minus losses at the mo equal £1K - LOL Better than last year - at this stage I was £16K down - but I am like the optimist who fell off the top of a 60 storey building and people in the building on each floor heard him shout as he passed "Well so far so good Everything on my 25 company watchlist in the red today SDX showing 2.75% down - still no final RNS with drilling results ! Already hit big gas and now drilling down for big oil - if we hit oil the SP will go from 62p to 80p very rapidly (80p is the book value of SDX) Will look at your babies and might risk a few K there ! Lakshmi - I am still here and bouncing off £5K day traded profits on some shares and £3K day traded losses on other shares ! I am taking a break from any further major trading at the mo as I expect the SM will go down this Summer. Holding HOC and SDX only and hoping for excellent drill results from SDX in the next few days - already hit major gas and now drilling deep for major oil. Company fundamentals are excellent (just like HOC) but who knows how the market mafia will treat the SP ?? I am not attracted to any other shares presently because they seem to be totally volatile and you are just lucky if you are holdings those shares when an unexpected event sends them soaring - problem is - do you want to sell and bank profits or indeed CAN you sell at peak SPs ? A famous man once said "It is better to travel in joy and high expectations than to arrive in disappointment " Regards and GL with your own plans

I am always stunned by the speed at which all the major miners and oilys SPs change - up 5% or 10% one day and down the next !!! If I could get the timing right I would make a fortune. Maybe Warren Buffett's contrarian game play is the best one - "When others sell you should buy and when others buy you should sell !" I am looking at selling out in May and waiting for post General Election results before re-assessing the market ! Regards

noggers - my new plan this year is to quickly scan the facts of any company - lucky I can speed read - and I scroll through the last year's RNSs looking for problems such as relentless sale of shares - huge debts - directors selling company shares etc.then I look at MCAP and number of shares in existence - big NO NO is companies with billions of shares and a low SP and MCAP. I do not invest in penny shares or companies with large dividends - large dividends usually is a signal the company is in financial trouble. I also read the Daily Torygraph business pages for City comments on companies and avoid IPOs. I restrict my holdings to just 2 or 3 companies at a time so I can spot "trouble up't Mill" coming. I do not know why HOC RNSs are a "kiss of death" to the SP - but HOC is not alone - witness the BARC RNS Friday which dropped the SP 5% - too much information !!!! Perhaps that is the problem with HOC also. "What the mind does not know the heart does not grieve over" is an old adage but a true one. The curse of modern life is the mass of information instantly available to all and sundry IMO The HOC CEO did say that Q1 is always a poor Q so probably Q2 will boost the SP ? Regards

noggers - I did have a lot of SXX shares some time back but when they got into the 10 year major project and issued lots more shares I sold out before the SP came down. You are right that SXX is a long term investment and I am too impatient to wait !!! At 72 years of age the time hourglass is running out quite fast ! The other factor is that I have enough cash to live on quite comfortably so SM transactions are a hobby and a gamble for me ! Like you I got it wrong recently in jumping into HUR and SOU just as they dropped 8% - but live and learn - I will never buy HUR and SOU again. I am also not tempted by the penny shares - I have once or twice made good money there but 90% of the time its a dead loss. The experts tell us that 90% of private investors make big losses over the years (but apparently we do better than professional brokers - LOL) Regards

noggers - looking at the annual ups and downs of the SM over the last 9 years I think it would be wise to sell profits at £3 and leave stake money to run - provided PM prices have stabilised a bit. The shares were at about £6 in 2011 I believe. But who would have thought in Jan 2016 that AAL SP would rise by 3 times its start price or FoxPoo and SOU would hit 7 times their start price ? SDX is presently 3.5 times its start price which is not bad for a company just 18 months old (in its present form) I did well in 2009 getting in early and buying BARC but the same tactic blew up in my face in 2016 - BARC is only now back to its 2016 start price ! Truly is it said "We must stress that past performance is no guide to what SP you will achieve in the future if you buy these shares !" PMO is on my watch list for June onwards as (after financial settlement) the SP I think should rise up to at least 100p with the arrival of the SPSO platform on the Catcher field in the Autumn boosting income I think we have seen the peak of the SPs in the big companies now - AAL down from 1422p to 1104p ACA down from 615p to 401p AGK down from 1305p to 877p etc - even CEY down from 194p to 178p !! If you are "a pot half full" man you could say - buying any of these shares at a 20% to 30% discount is a bargain but if you are a "pot half empty" man you could say - we are in for another big slide down in SPs this Summer "Sell in May and go away buy back in on St Ledgers Day" Regards and GL with your own game plan

Eish - I think you are right to keep your holding in HOC for the longer term. Once all this year's political turbulence is over the SM can sort itself out a bit ! Interesting to see banks like BARC marked up 5% one day then down 5% next day ! My little SDX was doing very well yesterday - up about 5% then the SP was hit by a big holder dumping thousands of shares so we ended up about 1% - but RNS next week (or week after) on known gas discovery and pretty certain oil discovery as well in the well should boost the SP permanently.
