"socialist tribe, pretending to be genuine BT investors" - SOM I was invested earlier this year in BT, sold for profit... then bought back in again more recently - just a small tuppeny haypenny holding mind you... buying up some more each time it dips though, as I'm very confident we'll see £1.60-65p within a matter of weeks. I don't work for BT, and I'm not a CWU member. I am a Labour Party member now though... mind you the opposite bench is fast loosing members and donors! Can't be helping them spending what'll soon be close to half a billion £ gifts to the Rwandan Gov for nothing in return... I mean tis the season of goodwill and all that but business is business too right?! Lots of value in them copper cabling now, could be a money spinner for BT? First it was Maggie taking away milk from children, if she were about she'd be out there helping snatch the cablings from the landlines of them elderly without hesitation!

Ditto what Prime said... £1.60p soon, with a nice interim divi on the way too. Many shiny new phones, consoles + tablets soon to be unwrapped, and with them plenty of new contracts too!

Though you may have a 6% savings account because inflation is around 4.5% in real terms your account is paying you just 1.5%.

Possible the yanks may have all the fun today, after FTSE closes perhaps? Tomorrow and into next week could be where it's at for the FTSE (once more have digested Bailey's prose and come to the conclusion that his threats to raise rates are entirely empty and that better still the most likely timing for UK rate cut is Apr/May, which could even be a 0.5% cut too).

Suren Thiru, economics director at chartered accountants group ICAEW, said the Bank (of England) was being "unnecessarily hawkish" in its language on the outlook for interest rates. He said this was "unnecessarily damaging an already struggling economy" by "raising fears that it will keep rates high for too long". He believes the interest rate decision is "confirmation" that the bank's hiking cycle is "completed".

When will FTSE 100 hit 8000+?

I'm near to 100% confident we'll hit £7.25 - to put the rest of my views on the table I reckon 80% confident on £7.50, 60% confident we hit £7.75 and previously I though £8 was out of reach... I'm now reckoning 30%

Ianfm - BoE can't really 'win' here - as they can't keep on top of inflation and they also can't support the economy to grow either. it's totally stuck in deadlock of stagflation - no growth and inflation running elevated, only in loose control (twice target plus some, instead of 4x target and plus some before the rate rises). In these circs holding bonds makes no sense (hence why they're quickly being dumped) as inflation just erodes their value over time. Yet UK gov is dishing out inflationary tax cuts and also acted delaying pay deals so the size of the backpay built up to be bigger (ahead of the pay deal there was shrinkage (Oct) while people were kept waiting for their inevitable pay deals to be done. So Gov created the Oct dip, through it's stubborn tactics and now it's adding to inflation in the Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar... Buying stocks protects from inflation (company revenues land and they share out the spoils via divi or SP rises), similarly... when BoE cuts rates the stocks will benefit too!

I had expected us to have already dipped below the £6 mark by now... When the US opens the rally will pick up the pace so we could be looking at £725-£7.50 here imo

Poker... Suggestion BoE would dare raise rates to 5.5% is laughable... Can you imagine the carnage for mortgage holders. Housing market would have convulsions with defaults and unemployment rocketing upwards. Not to mention the political instability it'd cause atop. Bailey's tried to keep a lid on inflation but he only has words as his weapon. All bark and no bite. When the US markets open this rally will get legs!

BoE: "Further tightening in monetary policy may be required" - HAHA - They wouldn't dare, as the pain for debtors would be unbearable - Massive buying signal that! - Esp where BoE 'predicts that services price inflation will temporarily increase in January' - obvs it was going to spurt back up as there's loads of backdated pay landing in workers pockets from long delayed pay deals being done, as Gov fought bitterly to hold pay down. Bailey is a joke! No credibility at all! BUY!!

There's still buyer reluctance, hesitation by those wanting to buy at lowest prices I think - suggests long embedded fears of a crash are still clinging on by the fingertips! However, there's so much pent up buying demand that when this moves it's really going to move up quick!

Poker... interesting comments but... UK BoE doesn't completely rely on the debt market... that's because £sterling is a global reserve currency, as you'll know from QE if there are not enough £'s the BoE can just print the currency it needs. Everyone is worried about debt, it's become an obsession! When everyone should be worried far more about the value of Sterling itself and much less worried about the size of the debts. IMO BoE knows full well that it cannot get atop of inflation without inducing political calamity via crushing interest rates... so instead it's continuing to allow inflation to run above target, it's why we're lagging the other western major economies on the battle against inflation.
