So where are we at, now the ofcom press release has had time to settle? Where does everyone see SP heading? - Personally, given any new rules will apply to all telecoms companies, and the fact telecoms is an essential service we all rely on more than ever before, I see there being little real change (compared to before this latest announcement landed). Insatiable/exponential demand for data will continue onwards and where there's demand there's also cash to be made by meeting that with a good quality and growing service! Strong Buy! £1.60-65 within a few weeks!

Aus3009 - Agree, Gov would have been far better off spending the £400m Rwanda cash (there's also an outrageous sum spent on the Legionnaire Death Barge too) on buying/investing in pretty much absolutely anything else! They could have used the cash to lower everyone's energy bills, discount water/telecoms/travel bills, or even to lower taxes! Thereby giving Joe and Jane Public cash to go out and spend in the wider economy and drive up real growth... Utter tosh there BigWill. The migrant/immigrant workforce generates absolutely insane wealth for the nation, when compared to very small costs of providing public services to those very same persons. In fact they generate so much wealth that as soon as immigration/migration is cut to low levels the entire nation immediately feels the economic pain! The Government's dirty secret is the UK is economically reliant on immigration. Sadly current politicians in charge frequently indulge in kicking immigrants/migrants whenever they're failing in their job as a distraction tactics from their own corruption and incompetence. Soon the grown ups will be back in charge and they'll restore respectable treatment of those working hard to fire up and keep the nations economic engine going.

The right wing obsession with dinghies and persons with no wealth, status or power is weird... in the workplace whenever management have time on their hands to micromanage you know the place is doomed as all the important stuff gets neglected in the meantime... Gov should be focusing on investment and growth! More migration we have the more broadband, phone and TV streaming contract customers there can be! To ensure competitiveness I'm not certain OFCOM can be too restrictive as to the exact formula each company opts to deploy/apply when making their calculations. To me it seems far more likely the new rules will centre around turning the calculations used into example £ and pence numbers which all customer can understand. Shown in the picture towards the bottom of the page on Offcoms press release. Difficulty will arise should Ofcom attempt to ban all mid-contract price rises... couple of occasions in the past I've opted to go a little more than 12months beyond the 'contract end date', as sometimes this has been a cheaper option than buying a new 12-24month contract! What would a telecoms company do if a customer were to eternally roll over their cheap contract?!

I think breaking the £6.30p barrier will prove to be rather straightforward (once the rate decisions are out of the way) as US markets bound to surge furthermore and where they head the rest of the markets will no doubt follow! I'm expecting TUI will have decent Q1 performance, in past years gone by the winter season has been about minimising losses but... with demand fierce and backpay landing in paycheques (from many long delayed pay deals finally paying out) there's going to be lots jetting off for some winter sun, ski & city breaks this next quarter ahead.

"That was exceptional times"... so essentially you're advocating telecom companies should set all their mid-contract price increases to be locked into alignment with the 2% BoE inflation target rate... i.e. throwing caution to the wind when it comes to any "exceptional times"... Yes, because that'll work out well lol - No contingency for any domestic/global inflation shocks whatsoever - potential for big scale insolvencies and service interruption!

The suggestion that companies can accurately predict inflation rates is completely flawed, no one can predict this accurately because it's dependant on far too many factors. If you think you're so good at predicting inflation why don't you approach BT with an offer to help them setting their prices 12-24 months in advance?

Very few had prior forecasted that inflation would peak above 10% in 2022/23 and that it'd remain significantly elevated (above the long term historical averages for a western democracy) either... It's easy to chime in on the bandwagon that 'price rises are unfair to customers' but equally companies cannot be unjustly exposed to significant economic risks arising from inflation (which is completely outside of their control) either...

Heallywood, interesting one!.. I mean there's some far out wacky conspiracy theories out there... and UK telecoms regulator investing or shorting the very telecoms companies they regulate... well I'd definitely consider this theory to be one of the wacky ones!

Fleccy, exactly they'll use three or so example CPI rates, 0%, 5%, 10% (probably) then addition of the +3.9% and they'll show the figs of what that means in £ and p... some may still claim they didn't understand but broadly speaking it should make it easier to combat many complaints around price increases, so on balance I see this mornings announcement by OFCOM as positive news.

Offcom has said "customers must be told about possible hikes upfront"... it has not said there cannot be any mid contract price increases.
