Bailey is seriously lacking in credibility, tough job mind you in this aftermath of the utter chaos Trussonomics and her war on the 'Anti-Growth Coalition'! BoE chief is trying to convey that UK is still a global power punching above its weight but... it's floundering around, clearly cannot cope with rates at these levels punishing those with debt mountains. That's why investors will see through the bluster later today, the gig is up! Rate cuts coming in Apr/May.

One of either ECB & BoE, or perhaps both, will probably try pouring cold water on prospects of rate cuts but... they'll be drowned out by the glaring obvious need for UK cut by Apr/May and ECB cut by Mar/Apr. Then once the US opens at 2.30pm all the markets will be given a lovely lift to fly! GLA as there should be some lovely dips on the way up to take advantage of!

Parsnip makes a good point... London South East looked as though it had incorrect dates in for the results. Almost as though they'd keyed in the Dec 2024 date for the results and assigned it to 2023. I don't think there's any news due to land today.

Poker, In 1798, Thomas Malthus proposed his theory... the growth of the food supply would fail to keep pace with population growth and would cause catastrophic starvation... However, he failed to consider technological/innovation changes and any process/efficiency improvements either... he foretold a dystopian future... okay so yes wars, famines and natrual disasters sadly do cause starvation in some regions but... more widely the theory has been completely debunked because just as BT manages to supply an ever growing demand for data with new technological developments, exactly the same is true when it comes to food, immigration/migration or any other similar analogy too.

My dear Poker - that's the beauty of economics... you cannot fight it!.. for the right wingers have tried their utmost to pull up the drawbridge with trade barriers, cut immigration to the tens of thousands and resist building too and just look at how that's working out for the nation! Everything is creaking at the seams, due to incompetent mismanagement... Alternatively, the keys could be handed to the grown ups, they'll unlock the real potential for a Global Britain and for Businesses to grow too! The dystopian myth of a world without water, or space for extra people is peddled by the fearful with others drawn in by its convincing narrative/propaganda! Instead its possible to embrace a near limitless potential for prosperity... for many hands make light work and can solve any problem!

The big advantage of more density in UK population is fibre and 5G connections can benefit and be sold to a greater number of people! The more the merrier!

The case in point here is that far from being 'overpopulated' the UK is in fact country miles away from being so. Far higher population densities are possible! There's ample space here and it's a fact of life the UK population will keep on growing, irrespective of whether each of us likes or dislikes this.

Quick wiki check and it's super easy to dispel bertrams false claim of UK being most densely populated. Monaco, 18,000 per sq km, sits at the top of the table with UK in 8th, with a mere 277 per sq km... Yet no one cries and whinges on and on about Monaco being overpopulated and too full... plenty more room at the Inn there is here on our island, the more the merrier! Paying too much tax is what we all will sadly continue to do, for there is no growth... which would otherwise have saved us all from this burden... growth would also have helped some UK shares (those firms earning domestically). The narrative the nation 'needs a clean sweep' and a 'strong Government'... well be careful what you wish for as you may just get it! and though you may feel okay as they target those at the bottom of the social ladder, who you perceive as deserving of punishment... when they finish they'll move on to target their next... at some point you may find out that 'strong Government' you supported turns its sights towards you... so, BT and wider shares on the London Stock exchange, we agree we need economic growth, a good starting point.

Phatkatzout - yes, plenty of vanity on show... flamboyant nostalgia for that long lost British Empire, flag waving rife and much vitriol/expletives to shout out aloud, much like 'Stop the Boats!' - It's all rather vain, sad and pointless... that the privileged have much wealth, and time on their hands, they can easily deploy their energies to insult/degrade those with no wealth, power, or status to change/influence anything... However, when you come to discover the current illustrious leaders have sold you down the river (leaving UK more than £3 trillion in debt) you'll be absolutely devastated... For that vision of a 'World Beating Global Britain' you backed will have suffered an economic humiliation of a history making magnitude.

Profit taking by those who want out ahead of Christmas, perhaps? Or by those booking some losses elsewhere on the wider market? - Personally I'm staying in for the long haul here, because TUI will continues to grow significantly, revenues (and profits) are pouring in! Plus it'll soon find the economic climate will support straightforward and cheaper debt re-financing too, topped off with much reduced oil prices the winter 2023 and summer 2024 are going to be boom times!
